Located in the heart of Riga, in just a few minute walk distance from Old Town, Riga Central market is one the largest marketplaces in Europe. It was built in the 1920s, inside several large hangars from World War I originally used for military airships, now serving as food pavilions. During the tour you will have degustation at five different sections: Fish: rye bread with sprats, lightly salted herring, local beer or soft drink. Vegetables: different kinds of salted cucumber (1 day, 1 week, 1 month), marinated cabbage (with beets, cranberry, curry), sauerkraut, marinated wild garlic, spicy carrot. Hemp: rye bread with hemp butter. Cheese: different kinds of Latvian cheese - smoked, with cumin, with cranberries. The city center restaurant is an genuine medieval restaurant complete with a vaulted banquet room and is fully decorated with ancient mark and medieval elements. The dining room’s ambiance will take you back to 1293, the period wherein these facilities were first used as a festival place and wine- vault for the ancient City Council of Riga. The restaurant’s menu provides a fusion of good food and interesting history. You can try cedar nuts and rabbit meat with prunes that were served in 14th century or have a taste of the barley cake that King Philip I used to eat way back in 11th century. The medieval table can seat up to 15 persons which is ideal for larger groups going out for a stag weekend in Riga.

Riga can be very different depending on which part of it you're in. On this tour you'll see all the various districts and hear about how they came to be and what they are now. Starting from the early 20th century's Art Noveau and garden city, wooden houses, little gardens on an island in the river, through soviet occupation with it's monumentalism, but also scant functionalism, then back to the independent Latvia's modern architecture - this tour has it all. You'll get from place to place in a comfortable vehicle driven by your guide, but keep in mind - there's still quite a bit of walking involved. If you've already seen (or just don't want to see) the Medieval Old Town, this is the best choice. Most of the places in this tour are less or non touristy, so you'd get a better perspective on what Riga really is. Alternatively - if you haven't seen the Old Town yet, but only have one day, we can pop it in the itinerary as well - the tour is highly customisable. Just let us know!

If you are on a weekend away in Riga, it is more than likely that there will be plans to sink a fair few pints. When you are in Riga, there is the chance to mix that desire with a beer tasting session meaning that you can discover beers that you would not find any other way. You will be taken to the best pubs that Riga has to offer and as part of the session you can try 4 different Latvian beers.

A female guide will pick you up and take you to the brewery. You will spend 3 hours touring the Basuka brewery building and learning all about the process of beer making and then you get the chance to try some of the beers before being returned to your hotel. The guide speaks English so there will be no problem understanding what is being said about the beer production. Tours are run all year long and as with many of the other attraction there needs to be 8 people to book. Once you have finished the tour, you will be ready to go out on the town and enjoy the rest of the day in a happy frame of mind.

You will go into at least 3 pubs during the tour and there will be 3 free beers lined up for you while you are there – 3 a night not in each pub. The guide will speak English so can tell you about the pub you are in and also a little about the drinks on offer. As there are drinks provided, it is important that you turn up sober or there may be concerns about providing you with the free beverages and that will not do.
