Sandwich Harbour is a lagoon on the Atlanic coast of Namibia, south from Walvis Bay, within the Namib-Naukluft National Park.Formaly a commerial port based around whaling and small scale fishing,it declined as the harbour silted up, and is now best known for its birdlife, which can be as many as 250 000 .Although called Sandwich Harbour, it was never a harbour or even a port, it is a shallow lagoon lying about 80km south of Walvis Bay.THE TOUR:Experience the adventure and beauty of exploring the Namib desert with your guide. We depart at between 08h45 and 09h00 (check-in 08h30) every morning from our Jetty at the Walvis Bay Waterfront for a marine educational sightseeing tour in the bay area in search of the marine big 5: Whales, Dolphins, Mola, Leatherback turtle and seals. While serving hot coffee and tea, our initial route takes us past oyster farms as we approach Pelican Point with its landmark lighthouse and 60,000 resident cape fur seals. In season, larger mammals such as the Southern Right Whale and Humpback Whales are often spotted, while other species, such as the Gray and the Pygmy Right whales have made appearances.Accompanying our three catamarans throughout are a variety of seabirds, such as the Kelp Gull, Hartlaub’s Gull, Pelicans and Cape Cormorant. Our journey takes us past interesting ships and oil rigs in the bay as we serve fresh oysters with sparkling wine, savoury snacks and desserts together with light drinks, cooldrinks and water. We return to the Waterfront at around 12h30.

Sandwich Harbour is where the Namib Desert meets the ocean. You will be picked up at your guesthouse. Enjoy a super day filled with adventure and exploring the beautiful sites of Sandwich Harbour, as well as the Salt works, Walvis Bay Lagoon & great bird watching. A yummy light lunch and cool drinks will be served at a beautiful spot for your refreshment. Enjoy a little bit of dune belt driving with the chance to spot Ostrich, Springbuck and Jackal. If you want to travel to Namibia and only visit Etosha National Park then this is the ideal start for you, all your meals and your overnight stay in/outside the Etosha National Park, including a full day game drive inside the park is all included. If you are already in Namibia this can be an add on. If you are interested in visiting en-route attractions as mentioned we can do this for you at an additional cost as those are not included.
