After morning pickup from your central Auckland accommodation, relax in your comfortable private vehicle during the 30-minute drive to Waitakere Ranges Regional Park.
Stop at the Arataki Visitor Centre, a museum nestled in the Waitakere Ranges. Take in views over Auckland and the two harbors, then browse informative exhibits to learn about Maori traditions such as wood carving. You'll also see native plants and wildlife like the Kauri tree and the weta.
Take an easy walk into the lush forest to see a cascading waterfall. You can swim in the freshwater pools, look for native wildlife such as long fin eels, keruru and pokeku, and snack on light refreshments provided by your guide.
Stop for the views at Piha's lookout point, then head down to the beach for your private 3-hour surf lesson with an an expert instructor. Start with a full safety briefing and practice on the beach, before trying out your skills on the water. Your lesson includes all surfing gear; you only need to bring your swimsuit and towel.
After your surf lesson, have free time at Piha's famous black-sand beach and perhaps take a walk up Lion Rock. Your tour includes a light refreshments mid-morning, and a healthy lunch.
