Leave the crowds behind on a 5-hour bicycle tour of Bagan’s ancient temples, traditional communities, and countryside that includes lunch at a local restaurant. Follow a local guide to a morning market, tour a 150-year old wooden monastery, then visit a few highlights of the Bagan Archeological Site. Eat lunch at a restaurant that is a training school for disadvantaged youth, and learn about a community-focused NGO before returning to Bagan.
  • 5-hour Bagan bike tour
  • Meet a local family in a traditional community
  • Tour a wooden monastery
  • Visit temple highlights with a guide
  • Have a Burmese lunch at an NGO-run restaurant

Make your way to a centrally-located guest house in Bagan, where you’ll meet a guide and get fitted with a bike and helmet for the ride, followed by a brief orientation to the day’s itinerary and bike safety.

Ride from Bagan to the village of Taungbe, a community of horse-drawn cart drivers, then visit a small morning market and meet with a local family to learn about Myanmar life and culture. Continue to the village’s 150-old wooden monastery, which still draws devoted Theravada Buddhist monks from around the country.

Pedal 10 more minutes to reach Ananda Pahto, a 1,000-year old temple with bright mural paintings and elaborate architecture, then visit Awegugyi Paya, a temple that faces the ruins of a former royal palace.

After exploring Awegugyi Paya, you’ll keep riding to the village of Myingabar, then pass through a toddy palm plantation on the way to the largest Buddhist temple in Bagan, Dhammayangyi Pagoda. The final stop of the day is a NGO-run restaurant in Nyaung U, where you’ll refuel with a Burmese-style lunch that helps support a training program for disadvantaged youth. This tour concludes back at your starting point in Bagan.
