Experience the best of Hungary’s wine region on a 4-hour Etyek wine country tour from Budapest with dinner. You’ll leave the capital city in the morning or the afternoon to discover the serene landscape of the Etyek wine region, known best for its white and sparkling varieties. Your local guide will bring you to two or three family-run cellars to sample wines as you hear the history behind their production. This intimate group tour will conclude with a traditional, 2-course Hungarian meal.
  • 4 or 5-hour wine tasting and meal experience in the Etyek wine region from Budapest
  • Visit three family-run wineries and learn the secrets of local winemaking
  • Savor a delicious 2-course Hungarian dinner seated inside a cellar or outside in summer
  • See the area’s old wine cellars, grape presses and villages from its hillsides
  • Enjoy an insider's view on the region, its people and winemaking traditions
  • Small-group tour limited to 12 people for a more intimate experience
  • Taste 4 wines at each visited place
The town of Etyek is a relatively young wine region that began production 200 years ago when German settlers first planted vines. Your wine tasting excursion will begin with pickup at your hotel in the central districts of Budapest, followed by a 30-minute drive to the Etyek-Buda wine region.

Amid a hilly backdrop colored by vines, you’ll learn about the region’s notable white varieties, commonly grown from sauvignon blanc and pinot gris grapes. You’ll also have the chance to try Etyek’s famous Törley, a sparkling wine specific to the region. Afterward you’ll travel to Old Wine Hill to hear more about the local soils and acidities as you take in the view of the grape presses, vineyards and villages below. Along with beautiful landscape, Old Wine Hill comprises almost 1,000 wine cellars along its slopes, most no longer in use.

The morning tour option includes two cellar visits and the longer afternoon tour incorporates three. You will be offered four wines from each family-run winery you visit, along with Hungarian snacks. This intimate experience gives you an insider’s peek into the secrets behind each wine as you discuss with your host, typically both the owner and the winemaker, the process behind each glass that you sip. You’ll leave not only with a delicious sampling of the area’s finest but also a closer understanding of the traditions and culture of Etyek’s wine country.

Your final stop will include a traditional 2-course meal at a wine estate. You are welcome to enjoy some additional wines at your own expense while you sample authentic Hungarian dishes. For a sample menu, please see the Itinerary below. Your guides will drive you back to your hotel in Budapest after your meal.

Sample Menu:
First course:
  • Roasted duck leg served with green vegetables
  • Chocolate mousse

Absolutely amazing trip. Our guide Denis was fantastic and offered entertaining insights into Hungarian history and wine along the way to the to the cellars. He's passion for wine shone through particularly when visiting his father's cellar. Even if you are travelling solo join this tour because once the wine starts flowing, everyone becomes friends. There will be absolutely no regrets booking this.

Three interesting and different wineries. Great whites and reds and a dinner with goulash at the last winery. Wish we could have carried home some samples!

This is a very low key but fun and very enjoyable way to experience Hungarian wines, wineries, and winemakers. There was a range of modern to traditional both in the properties visited and the wines. Our guide was personable and helpful.

Great tour! Our guide was lovely and very knowledgeable. We visited 2 wineries since we did the morning tour. The wines were great and the hosts were wonderful. Definitely worth a visit to see the country side and more of the city.

Highly recommend tour. Our guide, Michael, was very personable and fun. We visited three wineries, met with local winemakers, learned about their processes and dreams, and finished our tour with a lovely traditional dish. Michael was kind enough to allow us time for photos by the sunflower fields. It was a great experience!

Had a lovely time on this adventure. Just thirty minutes outside of the city center and so nice to see a little bit more of the country. The wineries were truly lovely and the wines were good. Better than anything I’ve had at a restaurant in town. I wish I would have bought some wine! The time just kept slipping away and before I knew it the tour was over. I highly recommend this tour.

The Etyek City and Wine Tour guide Julianna was the perfect host for our tour. Most of us were unaware of the long history of wine making in Hungary but Julianna was able to remedy that situation as we took the comfortable coach ride to the Etyek region, again quite unknown to us. This area produces mostly white wine and the highlights of the tour were the numerous tiny family operated vineyards in the district. We visited three very different operations all of which were very interesting. An excellent lunch was included as well as snacks at the other winery tastings. Julianna takes lots of photographs and will email them to you as lovely memories of an excellent day in the Hungarian countryside with new friends!

We had the most wonderful day! All of the wine was delicious, even purchased a few bottles! Each place was different and beautiful in it's own way. All of the owners of the wineries were extremely interesting and the food at the final stop was delicious! Would definitely recommend this tour. Absolutely loved it! We visited with our 20 something kids, they loved it as well!

Denes Orosz was our tour guide. His humor made the trip a pleasant informative one.

Although the scenery was lovely and the host was engaging I felt value for money was poor. On the first and last vineyard, one bottle of wine was shared between around 14 people was a little mean...The middle stop was the best where they were a little more giving. Wouldn't rush back.
