Make your way to Cabarete beach, where you'll meet an International Kiteboarding Organization-certified instructor for your kiteboarding lesson. Beginning kiteboarders will start with the basics: lay out your kite, learn the essentials of kite handling, and study how to use the wind to your advantage. Practice launching your kite on land while using hand signals to communicate, then get tips on maintaining proper form and adjusting power with the bar, allowing you to go fast or slow. Once you’re comfortable on land, enter the water to practice flying your kite into the power zone.
More experienced kiteboarders can workshop specific techniques and improve their kite handling, as the instructor shapes the lesson to individual skill levels.
With consistent wind and clean waves, Cabarete has become the Dominican Republic’s top destination for kiteboarding and kite surfing, and the beach was the site of the 2005 Presidente Kiteboarding World Cup. This 2-hour kiteboarding lesson concludes at Cabarete beach, close to the town’s restaurants, bars, and attractions.
