After pickup from your central Beijing hotel, journey north by private, air-conditioned vehicle with your guide to Jinshanling. If you wish, bring your own snacks as lunch will be late in the day.
On route, hear all about this section of the Great Wall, one of the most beautiful, least-visited, and challenging parts of the UNESCO-listed structure.
Originally constructed in the 1300s and rebuilt during the Ming dynasty between 1567 and 1570, this partially restored stretch zigzags about 6.5 miles (10.5 kilometers) through steep mountains. The epic terrain and the beauty of the wall, complete with its five passes, 67 watchtowers, and beacon towers, make it a favorite with hikers and photographers.
After a 2- to 2.5-hour drive, arrive and ascend to the ramparts by cable car. Your guide will recommend different walking routes and vantage points along the way.
Then, enjoy two to four hours to hike along the battlements, depending on the time available and your selected route. As you walk, admire the mountain views and inspect the watchtowers, arrow holes, and other fortifications.
Afterward, visit a local restaurant and relax over a tasty Chinese lunch. Then, return to Beijing where your tour ends with a hotel drop-off.
