Colorado’s glorious Rocky Mountains are just a short trip away from Denver and boast a recreational park system spanning more than 14,000 acres (5,665 hectares). Begin your exploration of this beautiful alpine landscape. Travel in an air-conditioned coach into the foothills while your guide provides an introduction to the area’s geologic history.
Nestled in the gently sloping foothills, your first stop is Red Rocks Park, best known for its natural amphitheater that plays host to some of the biggest names in music. Explore the trails and stone pathways that wind through 300-million-year-old red sandstone formations. Hop back in the coach and head deeper into the mountains, traveling along the beautiful Bear Creek Canyon past picturesque towns. Keep an eye out for the wild buffalo, elk, and deer that inhabit this area.
Soak up amazing panoramic views of Denver and the Front Range with a stop at Lookout Mountain. Pay tribute to one of the Old West’s legendary figures at the grave of traveling showman Buffalo Bill Cody. Tour the on-site museum to learn more about Colorado’s history as a haven for fortune hunters, homesteaders, and explorers.
Wave at the famous Coors brewery as you drive through the charming city of Golden on the way back to Denver. You’ll be dropped off back at Union Station where you can explore on your own.
