What To Expect

Greet your gastronomic guide in downtown Cozumel to commence your epicurean adventure. Relax during the comfortable minivan journey to a selection of authentic eateries and food stalls located off-the-beaten-track. Sample a classic Mexican empanada then savor the fresh flavor of a succulent shrimp filled taco, the fish in which was recently caught from the crystal clear water of Cozumel’s sea. Sip a refreshing cerveza as your guide explains how a combination of Caribbean and Yucatan culture influence Cozumel’s colorful cuisine.

Enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of an open-air market as you become acquainted with exotic spices, unfamiliar fruits, and mouthwatering meat. Feel the buzz and bustle before journeying to an intimate and ambient family-run restaurant (cocina economica) for a simple yet sublime taste of regional fare.

Conclude your gastronomic adventure with a visit to a Mexican bakery. Awaken your senses to the rich aromas of freshly baked bread and sweet pastries, and sip refreshing aqua fresca (a non-alcoholic drink of water and sweet fruit syrup) before returning to your minivan. Digest the knowledge gained on your cultural tour of Cozumel’s cuisine during the return journey to downtown Cozumel.

Fun afternoon eating with the locals
Tad_B, Jan 2023
The food was awesome and Jerry was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and gracious. He made the afternoon trip a great experience.
Just plain fabulous food tour
rodeyalan7272, Sept 2022
Gerry and Driver Juan Carlos were a pleasure to be with during our 2.5 hour food extravaganza that didn’t disappoint. The people we met and the “real” authentic Mexican food we devoured was second to none. We didn’t want it to end. We got our monies worth and it was a great memory that we won’t soon forget. If we ever come back to Cozumel I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again!

Amazing experience!!!
Douglas_H, Jul 2022
Jerry was absolutely amazing and hospitable, and made us feel very comfortable. We wanted an authentic taste of what Cozumel had and where the locals (not tourists) eat...and we got it!! The food was amazing and we just adored all the locals, they were so friendly and sweet. If you miss this miss out on so much and learning about the local food culture! Thank you to our driver Jerry as well! We will remember this day forever with out daughter!

It’s worth it!
Megan_C, Apr 2022
The tour was great! Exactly what we wanted. Gerry and Juan Carlos shuttled us around to authentic restaurants in about 3 hours. Totally recommend it!
So great you’ll want to go again!
Jessie_S, Apr 2022
Gerry is fantastic! He’s fun, friendly and knowledgeable. We went on this tour as a cruise excursion (booked on our own) in 2019 and loved it so much we did the same tour, again, 3 years later. And since we had been before, Gerry customized it for us and brought us to a couple new places!

Get off the beaten path.
Jennifer_C, Apr 2022
Most memorable was the restaurant where we had the whole fish. Gerri was great leading us through the tour, informative and was always upbeat. Just a thought to better the tour maybe to have like a sample platter of a few of the fruits/vegetables in the market for tour to try.

Jerry is a great food guide and gives a local perspective on the many dishes tried. This was the second time we have booked this tour on Cozumel and will absolutely do it again

Want to go where locals go and not tourists?
Brent_W, Jan 2022
If you're looking for a tour which takes you where locals go and NOT where tourists go, look no further. Gerry was the perfect guide. He was friendly, accommodating, and fun to hang out with. He introduced to some foods we would've never tried on our own. This is exactly what we wanted.

A taste of the region
Pamela_M, Dec 2021
Great tour! Our guide, Gerry, was outstanding. We would highly recommend this tour to get a taste of authentic Yucatan cuisine!
Heather_P, Dec 2021
This was an amazing tour. Gerry , our guide was great. He had been in Cozumel for 19 years. Our group visited 5-6 locations and had some good local foods and some tasty drinks . Hibiscus water , cucumber juice and mango juice were all delicious . I wished we could have taken some back on the ship with us. I always like doing food tours and learning about why and how it’s cooked. Definitely recommend this tour.
Fun local experience!
Laura_S, Dec 2021
This was a unique tour of very local places on the island. I have been to Cozumel many times but never experienced such fresh and local food! Our guide Geraldo (Jerry) was great. He gave a lot of information and included a tour of a local market. We were the only ones in the group so very personalized. Had a driver in an air conditioned taxi van so very safe and comfortable!

Wonderful Alternative to Sun and Sand - Go Native for an Afternoon
Barbara_M, Oct 2021
After seemingly countless visits to Cozumel beaches during cruise port visits, my wife and I opted to go a bit more "native". The Cozumel Food Tour was an amazing trip DEEP into Cozumel authenticity. I can promise you will not see any other tourists during this fantastic journey into Mexican cuisine. The food was delicious at all 5 stops - each unique in their offerings but common in their welcoming hospitality. Jerry was a fun and knowledgeable guide. The trip is safe and our driver was always steps away keeping the large taxi secure with our bags. If you're worried about potential follow-on gastrointestinal distress - don't be.

Best food tour
Maxwell_P, Jul 2021
Geraldo was an amazing guide and took us to places you can’t find on the internet and everything was delicious!
Response from Host, Aug 2021
Thank you for your 5 star review! Glad you enjoyed!
Tasting-for-Two, Jul 2021
Gerald was a great tour guide. Since there were only two people on this tour, our experience was somewhat limited! It would have been more interesting to interact with other tourists! Gerald (I hope I am spelling his name correctly) was very knowledgeable about the foods that the natives of Cozumel prepare and eat! If there would have been more people on the tour we would have been more comfortable in the promised air conditioned minivan! But that is one of the unforeseen consequences of Covid!! We are big fans of Viator and have enjoyed your excursions in several countries!
Response from Host, Aug 2021
Oh if we could have more guests we would! During the month of July Cozumel was in the color "orange" and out of Covid precautions tours were running privately, so unfortunately it was just the two of you - and yes, no van. I do hope you took advantage of the one-on-one time with Gerardo. We love him as our foodie guide! Thank you so much for joining us for a fun food filled day! We hope you come back in the future when we are "officially in green".
Brian and Joy tour the local joints
joy_l, Apr 2021
Gerry was very friendly and knowledgeable He shared his love of the island with us. We especially enjoyed walking through the local outdoor market and learning about the foods that are indigenous to the island and the Yucatán. We would never have tried some of the fruits if Gerry had not explained everything so well. It was inspiring to is foodies and also very fun
Response from Host, Aug 2021
Thank you for joining Gerry for a fun food filled day. I am so glad that you enjoyed the market tour. We think it's an important aspect of the tour - not just the eating part. I am glad that you were adventurous enough to try some of the unique fruits too! Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
