Make your own way to Edinburgh Castle in plenty of time for the start of the Royal Military Tattoo, and take your seat in the grand, outdoor arena at the Castle Esplanade.
Take in the illuminated tattoo ground and magnificent backdrop of the floodlit castle — the setting for the city’s world-famous annual, August tattoos since they began in 1950. Then, sit back and enjoy the 2016 show: a celebration of ‘Tunes of Glory’ and HM Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday.
Be swept up in the pomp and ceremony as the sight and sound of massed pipes, drums and bands fill the arena. Enjoy the rousing tunes of Scotland’s famous regiments and Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Band, and enjoy performances by the spectacular New Zealand Army Band, Lochiel Marching Drill Team and His Majesty The King's Guard from Norway.
Watch stunning shows by the Imps Motorcycle Display Team and Royal Jordanian Armed Forces Band and Drill Team, and be treated to displays by cultural troupes and singers. Past acts have included steel bands, flag-wavers, dancers and cavalry.
Lastly, as the show closes, be moved by the playing of a Lone Piper. Gaze up at the castle as a solo floodlit bagpiper plays a poignant lament from the ramparts — a showpiece rooted deep in Scotland's heritage that has become synonymous with the tattoo.
After the 1.5-hour show, join in the ringing applause and take your leave of the Esplanade, bringing your experience to an end.
