Don't be concerned about reviews that talk about a bumpy ride.
Long bumpy ride but so worth it to see the large colony of King penguins + Gentoos + 1 Macaroni hiding in the bunch.

Jimmy is the best
John_H, Feb 2023
We spent a wonderful day with Jimmy. He was a great guy with a good sense of humor. Great information. We enjoyed a place he took us to watch Penguins.
Not to be missed, 6 stars!
Scott_V, Jan 2023
This tour was awesome! Our guide, driver and new friend Jimmy was great. We were on the first tender and a bit early. I called Jimmy at the number provided from our tender to ask if we could begin our excursion early, no problem. Scheduled at 9:00 we began at 8:40. The SUV was very comfortable, plenty of space for 4 passengers and our stuff. There was a restrooms along the way at at volunteer point. Lunch was simple but good. Hint, take a bottle off the ship if you like. 1,000’s of penguins all over the place along with sheep, artic geese and other birds. I think we would have paid double for this life experience.
Don't miss out on this fabulous tour!

This tour was the most memorable tour of our South America/Patagonia trip. Seeing the three colonies of penguins up close was truly a highlight. Our tour guides made the 4x4 ride a ton of fun and delighted us with their stories of life in this distant part of the world!
Penguins Everywhere
Timothy_M, Jan 2023
Great tour for an up close penguin experience. The guide was great and the ride was scenic. Highly recommended.
Unless you have back or other similar physical issues, you should do it!
Frederick_E, Jan 2023
Two hour ride and a bit bumpy but we’ll worth it. Our driver, Adrian. was excellent and the photos I got of penguins and other critters were amazing! Jimmy Curtis is the owner of the business and a good man as well. Highly recommended!
Trip of a LIfetime!!
TIM_K, Jan 2023
The Faukland Islands looks like a giant rock crusher threw stones everywhere. Our guide, Jimmy, said a glacier did it. It was worth the one hour drive to the rookies where three different breeds bring up their young. King Penguins are our favorite and they did not disappoint. To stand within twelve feet of this fantastic creature is a beautiful privilege. Oh! Bring a jacket and tie your hair back as a wind is always blowing. After spending a lot of time with the penguins with orange ear-muff, I was quite cold (forgot my jacket) and headed for the car where Jimmy offered me a cup of tea or coffee. Just what was needed. At the end, we were given a wonderful bagged lunch before bumping back to the ship. Yes, take the trip and book with Jimmy. You’ll pay twice the amount of you do it through the ship—so do it directly.
Well worth it!

Amazing day! It’s a rough ride out over extremely bumpy terrain, but if you can physically handle it, the experience is well worth it! Our driver was great and they made sure we got back to the cruise ship in time. Could not imagined a better excursion!
Great Experience to Volunteer Point
Jeanne_D, Dec 2022
The whole day was great. Loved seeing the penguins close up. Getting there is part of the adventure. Much of the drive is off road. Marco, our driver was very familiar with the route and navigated the off road well. Marco shared information and stories with us all day. A box lunch of sandwich, apple, chips, candy and water, coffee, or tea was provided. Lunch was good.

Bruce_D, Dec 2022
Lots of penguins - kings and gentoos. Part of the adventure is off-road and is bumpy and pretty exciting, It really gives you a great feel for the Falkland landscape. Drive Steve was awesome and filled in a lot of details about life in the Falklands,

A great experience
bevan_y, Dec 2022
It was a great experience but the road is rough. The reception and process were very smooth and well organized.
Amazing tour
Charles_S, Mar 2020
We were promptly met at the dock by our tour group. Our driver Darren was amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable about the country's history and local flavors. We had a two hour drive to Volunteer point which is truly the best place to see three different species of penguins. They truly were in there natural habitat. They were literally feet away from us. The photos we took were amazing. Even with the two hour drive each way it was the experience of a lifetime and well worth it.
Falkland Island’s excellence.
William_H, Mar 2020
Nyree the leader of Estancia Travel in the Falkland Islands was excellent. Efficient caring safe and full of information is Nyree. On time we met at the Stanley jetty then drove into remote beautiful Falklands’ country over very rough ground. Volunteer Point is home to 3 varieties of penguins and much other bird life. Very different King, Magellanic and Gentoo penguins in abundance and together. This was a special day seeing the real Falklands Islands with a proud 7th generation lady. Nick.
Off-Roading AND Penguins
Helen_W, Mar 2020
Five stars are not nearly enough for this spectacular day visiting the penguins at Volunteer Point on the Falkland Islands. For all of us, this day was absolutely tops!!! The visit started as we climbed into 2 very tall Land Rovers, one driven by the tour provider, Jimmy Curtis; the other by Corey. We were soon to learn why the vehicles needed to be so tall. The terrain we traversed on the drive to our destination would have swallowed an average 4- wheel drive car. We also quickly appreciated the skill and knowledge of our drivers in being able to successfully negotiate the rugged and vast landscape. Along the way, Jimmy and Corey answered our questions, and informed us about the history and geology of the land over which we were traveling. It was a ride like no other — so much fun, so exciting — the journey alone would have been a very worthwhile adventure …. But the best was still to come…. Penguins!!! Thousands of penguins in their natural habitat! Gentoo, Magellanic, and a very impressive colony of breeding King penguins! And baby penguins, too! We were able to walk amongst these incredible creatures as long as we didn’t get too close, including staying outside a perimeter around the King breeding colony, or interfere with their passage to or from the beach. Periodically, we would squat down to take a photo and a penguin (often a juvenile) would inquisitively approach us, which was quite special. We were also able walk down to the beautiful, pristine beach where penguins would come and go from the water. It was a day like no other on what had already been a spectacular vacation – the true highlight of our trip. Jimmy’s professionalism and expertise were appreciated by our entire group. The schedule was planned to perfection, and there were no issues returning to our cruise ship on time. While vehicles of various tours do get stuck from time to time, Jimmy’s team traveled in caravan and experienced no issues coming or going. Finally, Jimmy accommodated our dietary restrictions with a nice boxed lunch for our return, and the communication leading up to, and during, our excursion was excellent. We enthusiastically and unequivocally recommend this Viator excursion and think Jimmy and his crew are exceptional!

Not to be missed

Excellent opportunity to get up close to the King Penguin colony and experience the wild ladscape of the island. This is a tour not to be missed.
Experience of a Lifetime!
Lorenzo, Feb 2020
Jimmy and Tonya were professional, knowledgeable of the area and history, and considerate of their guests. The long ride to Volunteer Point is well worth the time; an experience of a lifetime!!! Don't be concerned about reviews that talk about a bumpy ride. Jimmy and Tonya made sure all in our party were safe and comfortable.
Kings, Gentoos and Megallanics were awesome!!
Nicole_D, Feb 2020
I was quite upset because the trip information promises 4 people to a 4X4 and we were 5 crammed into the 4x4. The guide said I could cancel if I wanted to, I said no as long as I get to sit in front. She allowed someone else to sit in front! They talked all the way there, the people at the back heard nothing unless we asked her to repeat. When we got there, a couple drivers stayed with the 4X4. Someone else's driver of same company was available for the people to ask questions. Came snack time, my keto lunch was no where to be found. I had 2 apples which was ok. Luckily we stopped at boot hill, which to me more than made up for the bad mood I was in. All in all, it was a great day. The King penguins behaved and posed for the many photo opportunities. The Gentoos were a little moody and the Megallanics were scarce.
Awesome Experience

Out of all the possible Penguin tours through out South America this is by far the best!!! If heading South book months in advance, and enjoy!!!!

Watched gentoos, Kings, and magellanics interact with their young. Also saw them jump into the waves and swim as well as return to the beach. Thrilling but the ride is difficult.
