Explore the highlights of Pretoria during a tour from Johannesburg. Join a knowledgeable guide for a visit to one of South Africa’s capitals, often called ‘Jacaranda City’ for the profusion of lavender blossoms on its tree-lined streets each spring. Walk to Church Square to see where Nelson Mandela received a life sentence in 1964 and the nearby building where he became president of South Africa three decades later. Visit the famous Voortrekker Monument and the 19th-century home of Boer leader Paul Kruger.
  • See the top landmarks of elegant Pretoria, dubbed the ‘Jacaranda City’
  • View Church Square and the Palace of Justice, where Nelson Mandela was sentenced in 1964
  • Admire the City Hall and Union Buildings, where Mandela became president in 1994
  • Visit Kruger House, the former home of Boer leader Paul Kruger
  • Learn about the history and culture of South Africa’s administrative capital
Begin your tour with a pickup from your Sandton or Rosebank hotel, then settle into an air-conditioned coach or minivan for the 45-minute drive to Pretoria. Along the way, listen as your expert guide sets the stage with history and information about the administrative capital of South Africa.
Start your tour in Pretoria by walking with your guide along some of the tree-lined streets that explode with color every spring when the jacaranda trees bloom. These trees are the reason for the city’s unofficial moniker of ‘Jacaranda City.’ Hear about Pretoria’s origins as a Boer farming community, and how it became the capital of Transvaal — the Afrikaans name of the South African Republic — in 1860.
Continue the tour with a walk to Church Square, surrounded by some very important buildings in the country’s history. The Palace of Justice is where Nelson Mandela received a life sentence in 1964. Pause to reflect that not far away, at the Union Buildings, Mandela became the first post-apartheid president of South Africa three decades later.
See the statue of 19th-century Boer leader Paul Kruger, the first president of the South African Republic, and then tour his restored home to learn more about the figure many still call ‘Old Lion.’
Climb back into your minivan or coach for a drive to the Voortrekker Monument just outside Pretoria. This iconic stone monument is dedicated to the Voortrekkers (pioneers) who made the difficult journey in covered wagons and on foot into what is now South Africa in the 19th century to build settlements.
Relax on the drive back to your Johannesburg hotel.

The tour was very informative! It's always good to have a native to the land tour you! Though I think this tour is very expensive (especially without a food option), I think we would have paid close to the amount for a taxi or rental to travel there.

Our driver collected us and 2 other couples, 1 of the other couples were catching the Rovos train in Pretoria and were very tight for time , the driver drove very fast to the train and then proceeded to drive very slowly the rest of the tour . Given that ther were very few stops to make it seemed that he was spinning the tour out to make it last. All in all we did not think this tour was good value for money, our score of 3 stars is being generous. We went on other tours with other operators that were great value for money.

Driver was a hour late and didn't now how to get to several places. He did have a good voice but would not recommend this tour with this guide. He left us a lone several times.

Good way to see Pretoria. And I have to mention Lawrence who'll make everything so much funnier plus he knows he's history and politics. Great tour!
