Meet your tour guide and your small group of 10 people at White Sands Beach before boarding an air-conditioned vehicle for your 2-hour excursion. Along the brief drive to North Creek, see several landmarks like the former US Air Force base, John Glenn's spaceship the Friendship 7, the Governor's Office and the historic salt ponds. You may even see some of the local residents — wild horses and donkeys that roam the island.
Upon arrival at North Creek, your guide will hand out the kayak gear and give a simple paddling lesson. Kayaking is easy to learn and this trip is suitable for people of all abilities, just pay attention to the instructions and feel free to ask him or her questions during the orientation.
Launch into the shallow, warm water and paddle easily through the mangrove forest while your guide tells you about the local ecosystem. See native plants, birds, and fish, as well the unusual upside-down jellyfish. During this mellow kayaking trip, hear about local conservation efforts to protect native natural resources. Snap some great pictures, but be sure that you store your camera and other valuables in a waterproof bag. After 90 minutes of kayaking, return to the shore where you can towel off and change into your dry clothes before climbing aboard the minivan and returning to White Sands Beach.
