Begin your 3.5-hour shore excursion with a 45-minute tour of the Juneau city aboard a coach bus. Wind through Juneau’s downtown historic district, and learn about the sites you including the St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church and the capitol building.
Cross Gastineau Channel and get to know neighboring Douglas Island, which offers beautiful views of surrounding forests and mountains and Juneau’s harbor.
Continue to Mendenhall Glacier, about 12 miles (20 km) northwest of Juneau, part of Tongass National Forest. Spend 45 minutes here to discover on your own the various trails that abound the 12-mile-long (20-km-long) glacier. Check out Photo Point Trail, for views of the glacier face, or try Nugget Creek Falls and the visitor center.
After the glacier, your coach takes you back to downtown Juneau to the gondola station. An aerial gondola whisks you up Mt Roberts. Settle in at Timberline Bar & Grill for a delicious meal of Coho grilled salmon served with seasonal vegetables. Enjoy views of Gastineau Channel from 1,800 feet (550 meters) high.
While your guided tour concludes after your lunch or dinner, feel free to explore Mt Roberts further on your own. Ride the gondola back down when you’re ready to walk back to Juneau port.
