Grand Canyon spectacular but very long day
, Oct 2019
The Grand Canyon was absolutely breathtaking, a unique experience, well worth doing. The bus trip from Las Vegas though is exhausting. We had to be at a pick up point by 5.50am but didn't leave Vegas until 7.30am, annoying! Got back to our hotel at 11.30pm. We opted to do the hummer ride at the Canyon which was good.
We opted for the upgrade to a smaller mini van but the long drive to the canyon was still difficult. Once there, our Gray Line driver Irene knew just where to take us for the most spectacular, breathtaking view of the South Rim.
We booked this months ago and had been looking forward to the tour. It was well organized and Irene was beyond words. She was unbelievably knowledgeable regarding so many different landmarks and Vegas in general. She made us all feel like we were all friends taking this tour together. Oh, I should mention, my husband and I decided to upgrade from a bus with 56 people to a Mercedes sprinter with only 12 people. It was soooo worth the upgrade. We were taken to Hoover dam first and then we went to 3 different view points of the Grand Canyon. The views were breathtaking. Our lunch stop was great too. Our preordered food was hot and delicious. On our way back to Vegas, we spotted elks and Irene stopped so we could take pictures. She kept us very entertained with her sense of humor and all around wonderful personality.
A lot of waiting round and changing buses unnecessarily. I knew full well I would be spending a lot of time on a bus but not 3! Had this been explained at booking I would have booked with another company that takes you to the canyon direct from your hotel rather than having to go to a central location and change busses, and again on way home. The canyon was amazing, but the organisation, or lack of, was awful.
The Greyline tour operators were professional, but the bus ride is long and tiring. With family and small kids it’s tiring and boring. But the driver was very polite and driving was good. Lunch and dinner options for vegetarians are limited. So better pack it, food and drinks are allowed inside the coach. Coach has a restroom too.
The tour guide and driver were very friendly and knowledgeable. They have us every possible insight we could think of. All around great guys. The time frame in which we had to do every thing was very reasonable and the stops we made we had ample enough time to accomplish everything. They also offered us options to upgrade at a discount price many times but I’m glad I stayed on the south rim.
to short of time in canyon. we spent more time getting to the canyon. no explantation of what to expect once we reach the canyon. maybe the driver or guide could have given us a little more info about the canyon.
It was a very long day. We were picked up at 5:55 am and did not return back to where we were pick up until 12:30 am. If I was to do it again I would do the West rim were it does not take all day. It took us 8 hrs to get to the grand canyon. We were late for the movie so we had to wait for the next viewing so everybody had to wait on the 11 people who had paid for the movie. by the way there was 80 of us.
