Learn about the Romans, Moors and Portuguese people who have struggled for control of the picturesque spot as you start your tour at Geraldo Square, a scenic plaza named for ‘Gerald the Fearless,’ who seized the city from the Moors in the 12th century.

Take in the beautifully-preserved ruins of a 2nd-century Roman temple, said to have honored the goddess Diana; explore the Gothic cathedral whose heavy towers and stone walls dominate the town. Four of us went on this tour and we all felt it was excellent. Our guide didn't overload us with information but was always willing to provide info when required. The pace was good and when we particularly wanted to do something he was more than willing to oblige. An excellent day
