Make your way to the valley station of Kriens to board the gondola to Fräkmüntegg, gazing out over the alpine landscapes on the 30-minute journey. On arrival in Fräkmüntegg, walk the short distance to the Mount Pilatus Rope Park and use your pre-paid tickets to head straight inside.
After a safety briefing and demonstration, get suited up in a safety harness, helmet and gloves, and set out to tackle the park’s thrilling treetop obstacles. Your admission ticket offers access to all of the park’s ten trails for up to three hours, and there are activities for all abilities, including aerial rope bridges, zip lines, swinging tires, and Monkey Trees, where you can climb up to a height of 45 feet (14 meters) and abseil back down. You can also opt for a ride on the Power Fan (CHF 5 per jump), a 65-foot (20-meter) ‘freefall’ attached only by a 6mm diameter rope.
After leaving the Rope Park, perhaps re-fuel with a delicious lunch at Restaurant Fräkmüntegg (own expense), then take the 5-minute ‘Dragon Ride’, an aerial cableway that runs to the summit.
Spend time admiring the views from the 7,000-foot (2,132-meter) summit of Mount Pilatus, where you can stay in the panoramic gallery, make the short climb up one of the peaks (5-10 minutes), relax on the terrace, or enjoy a meal at one of the onsite restaurants (own expense).
Finally, descend with a ride on the world's steepest cogwheel railway, winding back down the mountainside to the Alpnachstad valley stations, where your tour ends.
