Set out on your night tour of Muscat after pickup from your centrally located hotel in the late afternoon. Enjoy the services of a private driver-guide who escorts you by air-conditioned car on a 5-hour sightseeing excursion around the capital city, topped off with a restaurant dinner.
Stop outside the marble-clad Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and admire this marvelous example of contemporary Islamic architecture. Note the minarets and latticed golden dome of the impressive structure designed with Omani and Persian influences.
As twilight descends on the city, drive past the illuminated Royal Opera House Muscat and continue along the Corniche, which skirts the ornate homes and shimmering waterfront that serves up sunset views over the Hajar Mountains and Persian Gulf.
Upon reaching Muscat Old Town, view the exterior of Al Alam Palace — the ceremonial residence of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos — overlooking the Gulf of Oman and flanked by the two 16th-century Portuguese forts of Jalali and Murani. Enjoy views of charming Arabesque buildings tucked into the mountains and listen as your guide shares fascinating facts about this former center of the historic capital.
Back in Old Muscat, practice the art of bargaining while you browse the stalls at Muttrah Souq, a traditional Arab market teeming with Omani silver, gold, pottery, textiles and handicrafts. After you explore the meandering labyrinth with your guide, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant that features typical Omani dishes and international favorites.

This was simply a fantastic night tour by a great guide. Muhammad although a much older gentlemen, brought unique knowledge from living in Muscat for the better part of fifty years. The sights we went to were not only interesting but beautiful and it was topped off by a very welcoming and filling meal at the end.

The driver didn't really speak much, long silences during the taxi drive between sites. The Restaurant we were taken to was not of local Omani food, but a Pakistani restaurant. Food very disappointing. Not enough time at the souk.
