Then, scramble up the mountains of Hafrafell and Úlfarsfell as midnight nears to watch the sun set and rise again within a few minutes, flooding the sky in gold and orange. Soak up the views of Reykjavik and the Reykjanes Peninsula from the summits before continuing across rivers and off-road trails back to base.
2-hour midnight sun quad bike adventure from Reykjavik, led by an expert local guide
Chase the midnight sun on a late-evening quad ride through Iceland's countryside
Rumble along asphalt roads, gravel tracks and challenging terrain
Climb the twin peaks of Hafrafell and Úlfarsfell and watch the sun set and rise again within a few minutes
Absorb stunning views of Reykjavik and the Reykjanes Peninsula against the orange-and-gold sky
Choose to ride solo on a quad or with a passenger when you book. Then, on the day, start your midnight sun adventure with a mid-evening pickup from your Reykjavik hotel.
Travel to the quad base and, after a safety briefing from an expert instructor-guide, don your supplied helmet and gloves and hop aboard your vehicle. Get instructions on using the controls, and when you’re ready, set off in convoy behind your guide.
Soak up the ethereal light of the midnight sun as you rumble along asphalt roads, gravel trails and rocky paths — there’s a wide variety of terrain to tackle and keep your adrenaline racing.
Then, as the sun sinks closer to the horizon, climb up the two peaks of Hafrafell and Úlfarsfell, and drink in the unforgettable views down over Reykjavik and the craggy Reykjanes Pensinula, beautifully silhouetted against the sky.
As midnight approaches, watch entranced as the sun sets and then rises again within the space of a few minutes — it’s an incredible experience. Keep your camera ready to capture the phenomenon: as the sun dances on the horizon, the sun illuminates the sky in a stunning blaze of orange and gold.
Afterward, ride back down the mountainsides and tackle more challenging terrain, splashing through rivers and following unmade trails on your way back to base.
Your quad bike experience then concludes with a drop-off back at your Reykjavik hotel.

There were beautiful views, some exciting terrain, and a very warm and friendly guide named Claudia. The only downside was perhaps some inexperienced or cautious riders who set a painfully slow pace at times. Perhaps knowing the skill level and segregating groups could meet the needs of all. We still had a wonderful time.
Our guide was awesome, the views magnificent and it was so much fun to be out on the trails until midnight! The pickup was right on time and transfer and gearing up was organized and easy. The machines are well maintained and easy to navigate along the trails. We did this on our first night and it was a great introduction to the rest of our adventures in Iceland.
This was absolutely incredible to ride ATVs under the midnight sun. As we share stories about our vacation, which covered many experiences in 10 different cities, this is usually the first thing we talk about. The equipment was in great shape and we had a really nice guide. It was a small group of us that went out and we got to see so many incredible views and vistas and the terrain was neither too easy nor too challenging and we were complete newbies at riding ATVs. Highly recommended.
My husband and I did this our first night in Reykjavik -- luckily it wasn't raining and we had a clear night to be able to see the city from the top of the 2 peaks. Experience was exactly as described -- we were picked up promptly on time by Christian, who was our guide for the excursion. He was friendly and helpful! My husband is an experienced ATV rider and I am not, but we both had a great time and felt safe. The coveralls etc. were provided and helped keep us warm in the wind. We were the only 2 on the excursion and Christian made sure we had a blast!
