This was one of the highlights of an already amazing vacation. Our pilot Samuel flew us out to the volcano and the associated glacier across a variety of terrains, explaining what we were seeing.
When we reached the glacier, he set the helicopter gently down on top of a spire of rock, so that we could walk around, and take in the vistas from all angles.
It was a truly astonishing tour. Both My husband and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Note: the weather in Iceland changes very quickly. We had set up the flight for the first full day we were in Iceland. When we checked in with helicopter service earlier in that day (as they request you to), they said that the pilot recommended that we switch to a day later in the week. It was quite windy, and he felt that we'd have a smoother ride two days later. We took his advice, and the ride was very smooth on the day he suggested. We're glad that we scheduled the tour early in the vacation, so that we had the leeway to reschedule at his suggestion.
Thank you Samuel for a wonderful tour!
