Your adventure begins with pickup from your Akureyri hotel in time for a 1pm departure. After meeting your guide and small group of up to 8 people, set out on the around 1-hour drive to Lake Myvatn.

After admiring views of the lake, enjoy a tour of the surrounding region, which is full of geological wonders, from rugged lava fields to wild glacial valleys. Along the way, hop out to get a closer look at the Grjotagja Rift, admire the otherworldly landscapes of the Skutustaðagigar Pseudo Craters, and pose for photos against a backdrop of the Dimmuborgir Lava Formations. You’ll also see the mighty Godafoss Waterfall, one of North Iceland’s most visited landmarks, and the Hverir Mud Pools.

In the evening, stop at a cozy country restaurant for a delicious dinner and sample some typical Icelandic cuisine. Then, head to the famous Myvatn Geothermal Baths for a relaxing soak in the steamy thermal waters – made even more magical by the twilight.

As night sets in, it’s the perfect time to spot the Northern Lights, and your guide knows all the best viewing areas to maximize your chances of a sighting. Along the way, your guide will explain more about the natural phenomenon of the Aurora Borealis and their importance in Icelandic culture, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get to witness the magnificent lightshow for yourself.

Your tour ends with drop-off at your Akureyri hotel around midnight.

Please note: Sightings of the Northern Lights are weather dependent and cannot be guaranteed.
