Overview

Delve deep into the dark history of Salem during this 6-hour walking tour. Get to know the town almost as well as a local as you follow your guide on four different walking tours, covering a variety of aspects of Salem's history. Embark on a Tour of the Day, the 1692 Witch Trials tour, the Cemetery Tour and the Salem Historic Overview tour. Each tour lasts between 1 and 1.5 hours; a moderate amount of walking is required.
  • 6-hour comprehensive overview of Salem's history
  • 4 different walking tours
  • 1692 Witch Trials Tour, Historic Overview Tour, Cemetery Tour and a Tour of the Day
  • Tour of the Day depends on season and availability
Make your way to the tour office, located on Central Street in downtown Salem. Make sure to arrive 15-20 minutes prior to the first of your four consecutive walking tours to collect your tickets.

Meet your guide and set off on your first tour: the Historical Overview of Salem, which begins at 12pm. Travel back in time through 400 years of the town's history through your guide's informative commentary. Learn about the important points in Salem's town history from the witch trials until today.

Rest your legs with a half-hour break, during which you are free to explore further or stop for a snack or drink.

The Cemetery Tour takes you through the earliest documented burial site in town. Throughout the 1.5-hour tour, learn about the meanings and symbolism behind the engravings on the headstones.

Depending on availability and season, your day's third tour will be one of the following: TV and Movie Tour, Seaport History Tour, Religious Tour, Book Talk & Book Walk, Afternoon Ghost Tour, African-American History Tour, or the Architecture Tour.

Your last tour is the 1692 Witch Trials Walk, which details the 17-month period when witch trials and witch hunting dominated Salem. Visit locations that were important during this period to learn about the dark history.

Had four scheduled tours in one afternoon..all four could have been done in one tour. too repeditive. not enough info on witch history. expected to go into some buildings along the way also. not worth the time.

It was ok. I thought it would be more mysterious, not necessarily spooky. I felt the guide should a lot more time for questions. She was very good though.

The first tour included in this tour I would rate a two star event. I'm sure it would have been interesting but hard a difficult time understanding the guide.. It was either his hard Boston accent , the clarity of the portable wearable microphone or the background noise but we couldn't discern what he was saying. We over heard others saying the same thing. Based on this we skipped the second tour , had lunch at the Red Box ? restaurant across the street beware they only accept cash there , no signs except a small one at the cash register that can go unnoticed until you're ready. We rejoined for the third tour included in the half day tour. Giovanni I believe was awesome, easily and clearly understood ! So enthusiastic. It was him telling a story/conversing with us as opposed a memorized rote script as with the first tour guide Joe?.. The graveyard tour was fascinating and the tour guide excellent.
