River Safari: Your wildlife Super Saver starts with hotel pickup for the drive to River Safari, where eight river habitats are spread across 30 acres (12 hectares) that are home to 5,000 animals. During the drive, learn about the various ecosystems of some of the world’s legendary rivers. When you arrive at the reserve, you can explore by both walking and on a boat ride. Encounter creatures like the endangered Mekong catfish, a Chinese salamander, river otters and a freshwater stingray. The different zones, which mimic natural environments, include the Yangtze River, home to one of the largest panda habitats in Southeast Asia. At this must-see exhibit, watch resident pandas Kai Kai and Jia Jia as they laze about and eat bamboo. Then head to the Amazon Flooded Forest zone for a look at more than 18 animal species, from the manatee to the arapaima. Hop on the Amazon River Quest for a boat ride down the ‘Amazon River,’ where you’ll spot fascinating animals like a capybara, Brazilian tapir, jaguar, red howler monkey and giant anteater. Night Safari: When your time at River Safari ends, you’ll be driven over to Night Safari, next to the Singapore Zoo. One of the world’s first nighttime zoo experiences, Night Safari is home to 98 acres (40 hectares) of naturalistic open-style habitats, where nocturnal animals like tigers can be seen in the subtle moon-like lighting. Aboard an open-air tram, explore the zoo and enjoy the mysterious thrill of traveling through the jungle after dark. The tram will make stops so you can hop off and follow your guide on foot down walking paths that get you closer to the animals. Pass by a large reservoir, and admire the specially designed habitats that imitate environments such as the rainforest of Southeast Asia, foothills of the Himalayas and the Indian subcontinent. Your tour ends with return transportation to your hotel.
We were much happier with doing the zoo during the normal daylight hours. While it was interesting in parts to tour the area at night we found that it made for too long a day and was spoilt on this occasion at least by inconsiderate people. It was also difficult to get a meal as by the time we managed to be dropped off most of the food areas were packed and they were finding it difficult to keep up with the orders and food had often run out.
The zoo in Singapore is in 4 parts a fifth is being built at the moment. This tour includes 2 of the parts. The night safari is better than the River Safari but if you only do the night safari, you arrive late and don't have much time. With this arrangement, you have time to go through the river safari which means essentially looking at aquaria of different river systems in the world. The Amazon cruise ride is a gentle theme park type ride and the animals you see does depend on luck. It is only 10 minutes long. There is a lake cruise as well if just want a boat ride. The highlight of this part is to see the Giant Pandas which were both out and active when I went through.
There is about an hour or so to eat - the best choice being at the area of the Night Safari entrance. The night safari opens at 7pm. The tram ride is good fun. Nearly all the animals are out - their food having been placed to encourage them to be visible and on show. The trails are good and allow you to see the animals with minimal lighting in the right time of the day for them. The creatures of the night show was fun and if you have time to see it is worth it. The advantage of this package is that transport to and from the zoo is much cheaper than trying to do it independently.
The river safari was a bit of a misnomer as much of it is walking. There however two boating options included, 1 the river cruise a placid trip around the reservoir wit the highlight being spotting the giraffes and 2 Amazon quest which does highlight some amazing animals. It is worth going around at least twice to see the animals better the second time round.
The night safari was on the whole well done and we saw some amazing animals on sensitively lit areas. However the train ride at the time had one stop to begin and another to end with no stops in between. For those with some mobility issues there would be benefit in stopping at each station to hop on and hop off to make the most of the various walking trails.
extremely well organised tour. Guide was excellent. appreciated hotel pick up and drop off. Zoo was amazing. it was hot and humid but many areas of the zoo are air conditioned. Pandas and manatees were our favourite. enjoyed the fire show, great performers.
As always the Night Safari is unique and informative. Combining with the River Safari makes for a very long day. Best to schedule for two different days if you can otherwise priority to the Night Safari.
Tour East is usually VERY good, as I've been on MANY tours with them. For this one, it was a flop. Our guide never told us his name. When we got to the River Safari place, he just told us what time to meet him back at the bus. He went in with us and told us that we didn't have to follow him, just meet him by the bus at the prescribed time. None of us on the tour knew what the deal was, really. Were we supposed to go through everything and then that's it? It was rather disappointing. Really all that Tour East supplied us with was a ride. After the River Safari, we weren't going to wait for 3.5 hours for the night safari we were hot and sweaty/stinky and in no mood by this time, so I called Tour East. They told me that I needed to go to the bus at the prescribed time 3.5 hours later. My wife and I decided to Uber our way back to our hotel and skip the Night Safari. I don't recommend to anyone to try to do both safari's in one day, and just get YOURSELF there Uber is cheap and pay for yourself. I was highly disappointed. I have another tour with them on Friday night, and hope this was an isolated incident!
Did not enjoy this as much as I had hoped. Would not recommend doing both on the one day. Feel the departure from Chinatown was way too early, from memory was 1:30pm, took about 40 plus minutes to get to the Zoo. Once there our guide pointed us to the Entrance Plaza and from there onwards you walk, lots of walking actually. Took a while to get to the Red Pandas and Giant Pandas, photo time and yes, buy your pic with the pandas. On to the River Safari boat, 15 minutes around the waters with nothing much to see. Continuing on through the Wild Amazon, Squirrel Monkeys and the Giant River Otters. Tour Over, its 4:30pm. Now what to do until the Night Safari commences. There was nothing but sitting around for 3 hours, have dinner - don't recommend the KFC - chicken not cooked thoroughly and too much coating. Night Safari did not start until 7:15pm. This was interesting but very rushed, lots of walking and long walks between activities. Impossible for photos - no flashes allowed, venue not really well lit to even be able to see the animals in their night surroundings. Travelled around part of the park in the train, even still not much light provided to see much - disappointed.
My husband and I were booked to do the river safari followed by the Night safari. During the bus journey to the river safari, the guide did not mention the last timing of the river safari. He told us that we had to meet us at 7pm at the entrance of the Night safari and that he would probably be late so we took our time going around the animal enclosures and reached at 6:05pm by which time the river cruise and safari were closed. At the night safari, he was not punctual, extremely disorganised and was struggling to manage a group of 31 people. He told us to meet him at the map outside the Fishing Cat trail at 7:45 and if he wasn’t there, then we had to meet him at tram station 4. He wasn’t at either meeting point at 7:45. Finally when he found us at station 4, he told us that the rest of the group had done their tram ride and we had missed it because we weren’t on time. When I told him that we were and he could have waited for just a minute if our watches didn’t synchronise exactly and that him giving us 2 meeting points was disorganised on his part, he became extremely argumentative and ranted on for 5 minutes that we couldn’t understand what he was saying and that it had been a long day for him and he was handling a group of 31 people (really not my problem) and kept speaking rudely to me till the tram arrived and then made a big show of the fact that he was getting us a place on the tram - which is precisely what we had paid for. So we missed the river safari because of this man and were spoken to very rudely to ruin the rest of our evening. Worst tour guide ever!
