Depending on your level of cycling ability you’ll be placed into one of two pace groups. Those who are up to it will be placed in the ‘advanced’ group, which will cover a total of between 42 and 54 miles (68 to 87 kilometers) and between 5,500 and 6,500 feet (1,680 and 2,000 meters) of elevation gain during their ride. Meanwhile, those in the ‘intermediate’ group will traverse 41 miles (67 kilometers) and 3,700 feet (1,130 meters) of elevation gain.
During your ride, you’ll pass through a changing island landscape of pine tree forests that slowly transitions to a more stark, moon-like, landscape at the higher altitudes. I would highly recommend this tour for athlete or any adrenaline junkies. There is long stretch of incline with the gradient of 8-9, hence, your training plan before the ride should focus on endurance training. There was about 22 km downhill in the whole climb, and there are many stretches where the downhill is long and straight on smooth tarmac road , make it a perfect spot for fearless adrenaline junkies to go down the mountain. The carbon bike that we hire was superb, the tour organiser was very organise food, drink, support, knowledge, options of routes for different levels. The sight is amazing, and there is no other better way to explore Tiede than by riding it. It really is ride at your own pace . The guide has got a very good knowledge about cycling in the area and throughout the whole journey, you will feel throughly supported. We stopped at a village San Miguel for lunch and it was lovely way to refuel. It is definitely an experience not to be missed!
