We had a fantastic day rafting at Osumi Canyons. We were collected from the centre of Berat and taken for a 2 hour drive to Osumi Canyons. The drive was an adventure in its own right, speeding along winding roads and though the mountainous Albanian countryside up to the gorge itself. Once there we were provided all the kit we needed, wetsuits, helmets and life jackets and given a safety brief before another short drive with the boats down to the waters edge. The water was quite low when we were there but, although the river wasn’t going to provide the adrenaline, the scenery certainly did. With the gorge towering over 100m above our heads in places, sometimes wide, sometimes narrowing to barely the width of the boat and beautiful waterfalls dotted along the way, it was truly spectacular. In peak spring rafting season, when the water is much deeper, it must be incredible. After winding our way down the river we were taken back to base for a shower (suggest you take your own towel as they are not provided) and change before heading for lovely lunch at a local restaurant, all included. After an torrential thunderstorm had passed, it was time to drive back. The roads were now very wet and landslides had left mud and rocks all over the place. I was impressed and grateful for the driver’s professionalism as he navigated us steadily and safely back to Berat.

Wow, what an experience! This has been one of the best parts of our time in Albania. Everything was so well organised, the canyons were an unmissable experience. We were lead by our guide Enver who really made the day spectacular, what a guy! Thanks for everything!
