Begin your tour of the gorgeous countryside around Bordeaux with a comfortable coach trip from the city center into the prestigious  Médoc wine region. Enjoy the views of vineyards and historic buildings as you learn more about the the wine-making history of the region from your knowledgeable guide.

Bordeaux's wines are noted the world over, but the wines of the  Médoc are unique in the region partly because of geography – the location on the Gironde estuary not far from the Atlantic Ocean means the climate is milder and the amount of annual rainfall is quite a bit higher than other wine-growing regions further inland. While those aren't usually the best conditions for viticulture, winemakers for millennia have taken advantage of the excellent soil and haven't let the climate hold them back. There are more than 1,500 vineyards in the Médoc today, and some believe wine has been produced here since the 8th century.

Disembark at a winery on the left bank of the Gironde estuary to meet the winemaker and learn from a professional what it takes to produce such highly prized wines. You'll sample some of the wines made here, including merlot and cabernet sauvignon, and have an opportunity to ask the winemaker any questions you like about wine-making in this famous region.

After your wine tasting session, make your way to an awaiting river boat on the Gironde estuary for the return trip to Bordeaux via a river cruise. The estuary is where the Dordogne and Garonne rivers meet, and you'll be taking the Garonne River back into the city. Sample more local wines during a wine tasting session aboard the boat.

The tour was very interesting - the guide spoke in English and French and was very informative. Tasting wines was alot of fun. I would recommend this tour which combined wine tasting and a cruise.

Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and attentive throughout. The bus journey is around 45 mins, guide in both English and French. We spent an hour at the Vineyard, hearing about the making process and tried two wines. We spent nearly 3 hours on the boat tasting 4 more wines which was fantastic.

Our Viator itinerary told us the WRONG MEETING ADDRESS. Sadly we missed our bus and the tour. So I suggest DOUBLE CHECKING the meeting place with the TOURISME OFFICE.

Do not take this tour if you want to taste wine. If you take this tour expecting to be doing wine tasting, prepare to be very disappointed. This is a river boat cruise company who've added wine and a bus ride to their cruise. If you want a cruise down the Gironde Estuary then this (might) be the tour for you, if you want wine tasting then no. The initial visit to the chateau is lovely, very pretty and you get a tour of the vats they make the wine in and the barrel room. Then a tasting of 2 wines, a tasting sample, not much. We visited one chateau only. In relation to the bus ride, they overbooked the tour and so there weren't enough seats. So the guide asked someone to basically get off the bus and get refund. As if anyone was going to say yes. Then comes the "wine tasting" river cruise. The cruise lasted for 3 hours and during that time you are given 3 single and very small splashes of wine to taste. That's it. No refills. Do not waste money on this tour. You're better off going to a wine tasting class (there's a great one in Paris) or basically get a good book about wine, a bottle of Bordeaux and enjoy both in the park.
