  • Lunch included
  • Round-trip transportation from Mauritius hotels
Your day of sightseeing in Southwest Mauritius begins with pickup at you lodging. Board a comfortable tour vehicle with your guide and tour group, then set off for your first stop, Floreal. Visit some handcraft workshops, a great place to pick up souvenirs from your trip and see what types of crafts and handmade goods are made on the island.

Continue to Trou aux Cerf, a massive volcanic crater that measures 656 feet (200m) across and 279 feet (85m) deep. From the edge of the crater, you can see panoramic views of Mare aux Vacoas, Rose Hill and Cureipipe.

Visit Grand Bassin, home to a Hindu Temple and a surrounding sacred lake. This temple is the destination of the Maha Shivaretr, a yearly pilgrimage. Depart for Black River Gorges Natural Park, where you'll visit the Alexandra Fall and get views over the southern portion of the island. From Glack River Gorges Waterfall, snap photos of views over western Mauritius.

Stop for a rum tasting at the Rhumerie de Chamarel, a distillery that makes Mauritius' native rum, then continue to the nearby Chamarel Waterfall and the 7 Colored Earth, one of the islands most famous sights.

South Mauritius Tour

Can't say enough about this tour. Guide turned up 10mins early in nice air conditioned car. Spent 7hours together on a very fun and detailed excursion. The driver/guide (apologies as we forgot his name) was fun and also very informative. My wife and I had an amazing time. Would do again in a heartbeat.

Highlights of Southern Mauritius.

Content of tour was excellent and we saw amazing scenery, learnt about Rum distilling, came across a Hindu temple and annual festival (which was unexpected) but delightful. Roads were very narrow and we had to push it to get back to the ship on time, but an overall great experience with a great guide.

Splendid tour

We were two persons plus our driver-guide. He was polite and well informed about the places we visited and about Mauritius in general. The car was spacious, new and well air-conditioned, not too cool. The program was very well thought out. It contained natural wonders and man-made curiosities. All in all, the tour was splendid!

We went on the south west tour and it was very informative and our guide was very knowledgeable and was open for us to ask questions. Some of the views we saw were amazing and got to see some of the hard to get to on our own. Only thing we felt was not needed was our first stop to basically a jewellery shop and a place there model boasts are made, felt like we were only taken there to buy stuff. Outside of that it is a well worthy trip

Our driver spoke very fast and was only interested in what he had to say and didn’t engage with us at all. In fact when he dropped us off at a sight he said a brief outline of the place and told us he’d meet us back here in 20 mins then walked off looking at FB on his phone.

An excellent way to start our Mauritius visits. The driver who doubled up as our guide was very professional and well informed on a multitude of subjects that we discussed through our day long trip. Very knowledgeable and polite.

Amazing tour of the South West of Mauritius

I initially wrote this review based on what we did/saw however this is a fairly tried and tested structured tour and felt it was no point going over what everyone has already and instead wanted to review the company and guide more. If this is your first time in Mauritius or simply want to know more about Mauritius (Specifically the SW in this case), this tour is the one to go for. Nitz introduced himself as the guide and went through the structure of the tour starting with the Handcraft workshop. Being into collecting boats/ships from each country, we enjoyed this and were taken back from the skill of the staff building these boats taking into account every small detail. Next stop was the Volcanic Crater - This is huge however with the growth of the trees and forestry, you do need to use your imagination when you see the crater from up above. Next step was Grand Bassin - the Hindu temple. For us, this was a major part of the tour and this is where we spent the most time. The enormous statues are breath-taking but also we noticed how peaceful it was here. Traditions were respected, religious services carried out and even the worst of tourists respected culture and traditions removing shoes when entering inside. From here we went to the Black River Gorges park where we were shown the various falls in the package. We spent a while at each of the falls taking in the beautiful scenery - you realise how high you are when you stare into the open vastness of the forestry below and no camera can capture this - To end, it was off to the Rhumerie de Chamarel, a distillery that makes Mauritius' native rum to sample no less than 7 different rum styles! Then it was the Chamarel waterfall finishing off with the 7 coloured sands. Lunch was provide as part of the package at La Citronelle where we experienced our first Mauritian Curry! Very filling and tasty. End to end this was a perfect tour. The guide was brilliant and went out of his way to guide/assist us even stopping for some traditional street food at our request and a supermarket to pick up some gifts. There can be a lot of rouge guides in any country and Mauritius has their fair share so it is important to get with a registered one – Eco Holidays Mauritius is one of them. Start to finish we had a great time making it one of the best days of our stay there. We can’t thank you enough for making it so special and hopefully when we are back sometime in the future, we can do other tours with you.

The South west tour is a must when you visit Muaritius. As we were only 3 of us on the tour it was in a taxi with Sooraj as driver and guide I must say, we had a very pleasurable experience with Sooraj being very informative, taking us to prime locations for photo shoot and being very patient and accommodative. Would highly !
