Bring to life the story of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers on this walking tour through the evocative, historic heart of Verona. See for yourself why the city’s ancient Roman landmarks and medieval squares provided the perfect backdrop for the romantic tragedy as a guide shares the legends behind landmarks like the Scala family tombs, the Madonna Verona fountain, and Juliet’s House and Balcony.
  • 1.5-hour 'Romeo and Juliet' walking tour of Verona
  • Explore the city that helped inspire Shakespeare's romantic tragedy
  • Imagine visions of young love at Juliet's House and Balcony
  • Hear legends of feuding families at the Scala tombs
  • Visit ancient Roman, Gothic, and Renaissance landmarks with a guide
  • Great overview and introduction to Verona's intriguing history
In the afternoon, meet your storytelling guide at the city’s Arena amphitheater, an ancient Roman artifact that pre-dates the Colosseum and has been in use for more than 2,000 years. From here, set off on a 1.5-hour stroll through Verona's winding medieval streets while your guide offers an overview of the city’s ancient roots and fascinating history. Although the Capulet and Montague families are fictional, Verona’s past is ripe with stories of fatal feuds, romance, and drama that made it a natural setting for Shakespeare's tragedy.
Let your imagination run wild with visions of young love and secret trysts at Juliet’s House, a historic home featuring a much-visited balcony and statue of the doomed protagonist (though any Shakespearean connections here are dubious). Continue on to Herbs Square, lined by a bustling local market and stately palaces. Learn the history behind landmarks including Lamberti Tower, the Madonna Verona fountain, and the medieval Domus Mercatorum, one-time home of the city’s merchant guild.
See evidence of Verona's multilayered past at Signori Square, where Roman, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and modern architecture converge in a fascinating urban landscape. Finally, wind through quiet courtyards and backstreets to reach the tombs of the Scala family, a ruling clan of the 13th and 14th centuries whose scandals and power struggles are reminiscent of the tangled family feuds in Romeo and Juliet.

Our tour guide Francesco was lovely, very enthusiastic, incredibly knowledgeable and well-informed about the city and its history. He took us to locations we wouldn't normally find or know of. It was a great tour to get to know Verona and her history. He also was very attentive and easy to get along with.
I highly recommend this tour.

Excellent all around. First, we almost missed the tour entirely because we accidentally ended up in Milano long story. The tour guide was waiting for us in Verona and was worried so she called me. When I told her that we were in Milano by mistake and were terribly sad that we were going to miss the tour, she spoke with the other tourists and they agreed to postpone the tour until later in the day and we were able to get to Verona in the afternoon and take the walking tour! The tour guide I apologize for not remembering her name she is the author of the tour book that they sell in the piazza was very gracious and I'll never forget her courtesy in rearranging the time of the tour so we could make it. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed Verona. The best part of the tour is that it was a small group and the tour guide was not in a hurry. We will definitely go back some day.

the tour and scenery is great but our experience is not. Poorly organize, we have at least 50 people for 1 guide and we don't have a headset to listen to the commentary of the tour guide, so we miss a lot of information because of too many people in the group.

Maria Pia was fabulous. Her knowledge of Verona and its history is amazing. She must be commended. We would have loved it if it had been a little longer, but it did give us a true insight into the culture and history of Verona. we would love to come back and explore Verona more. Thank you Maria.

Great walking tour and would recommend for anyone visiting Verona! Our tour guide Maria was very friendly and knowledgeable and provided a lot of information on the history of Verona
The only concern is that I had called to confirm the meeting place and was told in front of the Arena however that was not the meeting point and wasted some time of the tour trying to locate our tour guide otherwise this was a great tour!!

Our guide was very informative. She gave interesting information that made it a fun walk. Her information has been repeated many times to friends and family as we go through our pictures.
