Trip Inspiration
It might be Vietnam’s third-largest city and one of its busiest cruise ports, but Da Nang is more than just an urban center. Located 479 miles (770 kilometers) south of Hanoi and 528 miles (850 kilometers) north of Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang oozes character, from its French colonial architecture to its lively night markets and atmospheric Han riverfront, lined with bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. It’s easy to take in the top attractions in a day, touring the Museum of Cham Sculpture, posing for photos by the Lady Buddha statue, and admiring Dragon Bridge, which is dramatically illuminated at night. Guided tours that combine popular sights like these save you the headache of navigating from one attraction to the next. You can even make it out to the jagged peaks of the Marble Mountains, which keep watch over the city’s southern border, on a day trip. Equally enticing are the sandy shores of My Khe beach and Non Nuoc beach. Just beyond the city, the Son Tra Peninsula harbors natural wonders such as Monkey Mountain and Lang Co beach, as well as Hai Van Pass. Hai Van Pass is one of Vietnam’s most memorable coastal drives, and motorbike tours give you the thrilling option to experience it the local way. A little farther afield, the majestic My Son Sanctuary and the forested hills of Bach Ma National Park abound with photo opportunities, while neighboring Hoi An is renowned for its atmospheric ancient town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Da Nang is a laid-back modern metropolis in central Vietnam. Arguably best known for the Golden Bridge at Sun World in Ba Na Hills and the Marble Mountains, the vibrant coastal city is also home to an international airport and is close to the popular tourist hub of Hoi An.
...MoreTwo or three days in Da Nang should be enough for most visitors—with one day exploring Sun World and another on a day trip to the Marble Mountains, Hoi An, or Hai Van Pass. The city is also worth checking out, with beaches, historic architecture, museums, and a picturesque riverfront.
...MoreYes, but not from the beach. To snorkel, jump on a boat to the nearby Cham Islands (also accessible from Hoi An). Part of the Cu Lao Cham Marine Park, this tropical paradise is full of protected coral reefs and sea life, making it ideal for snorkeling or diving.
...MoreNowadays, one of the most popular activities in Da Nang is going to Sun World and the Golden Bridge. However, there are many things to do, including going to the beach, surfing, hiking in the Marble Mountains, taking a scooter up to Hai Van Pass, and feasting on street food.
...MoreDa Nang and Hoi An couldn’t be more different. One of Vietnam’s biggest cities, Da Nang is very modern and cosmopolitan, though it has lots of character. On the other hand, Hoi An is popular for its historic attractions, picture-perfect streets, and relaxed yet touristy vibes.
...MoreYes, Da Nang is a popular coastal city to visit with attractions, beautiful beaches, and great transport links. It’s an ideal jumping-off point for exploring the rest of the region—including the Golden Bridge at Sun World, the Marble Mountains, Hai Van Pass, Hoi An, and My Son.
