The basics

One of the best ways to see the Seine is to walk along it, particularly on the central stretch from Les Invalides to Île Saint-Louis. There, zigzag across the river on the Pont Alexandre III, Pont Royal, and Pont des Arts to see some of the most elegant and well-known architecture in France.

Alternatively, a Seine River cruise allows you to rest your legs and admire the same sights. Book a brunch, lunch, or dinner cruise to combine your sightseeing with a French meal, or opt for an Eiffel Tower combo to enjoy two of Paris’ most popular activities in one tour.

Paris Seine River Dinner Cruise with Live Music by Bateaux Mouches
A wonderful evening with a gourmet 4-course meal in a magical setting, cruising along the River Seine through the centre of Paris. Magnificent views from your table and you can go out on the top deck for an even better view. It can be quite cold out there! Excellent entertainment from the pianist and violinist. There is a photographer but note he charges €15 for one photo.

I highly recommend a river cruise on a trip to Paris. It's a lovely experience with good food, wine, and a taste of some historical sites in Paris. At first, it didn't seem like we were being waited on, but once it was brought to someone's attention, the waiter we got was funny and interactive. Friendly service. Bathroom onboard is a great idea (and they're surprisingly clean!)

Paris Seine River Gourmet Dinner Cruise with Champagne Exclusive Viator
Duration of the cruise was optimal and there were no delays. Food was good. The live music was great but I would have preferred it not that loud. To sit by the windows there is an extra charge. I would have appreciated cleaner windows so that we can take some pictures.

Paris Seine River Sightseeing and Gourmet Dinner Cruise with 3 Course Menu
Very efficient service. Loved the atmosphere ,loved the singing ,loved the sights and very clean. However, it was a surprise when we had to pay extra for any type of drink, including water, and if we wanted to upgrade the two dinner options to steak after already paying the price we paid.

Our tour guide, Violet, was amazing! Great personality and sense of humor. Kept everyone’s attention and was a great historian. Our safety was always a priority to her. We definitely enjoyed our experience on this tour.

We chose the premium option and we’re happy with the result. Excellent service and great food choices. Clean bathrooms below deck and at the dock. Views from inside were great and despite high winds the boat was stable for the day.

When to get there

For a tranquil walk, head to the river in the early morning hours before most of the crowds and commuters arrive. Or go for an after-dinner stroll, and take in the reflections of the City of Light on the water.

Exploring Canal Saint-Martin

In northeast Paris, the Canal Saint-Martin district is home to smaller waterways where footbridges, crossed by trendy locals, replace the Seine’s traffic and tourists. Enjoy a more laid-back atmosphere and watch boats on the locks with a wander along the tree-shaded paths.
