On this tour you will experience the island life on the biggest island in the inner Hebrides.
Leaving Portree, we will travel north to our first stop, The Kilt Rock. This is a famous sea cliff in north east Trotternish. It is said to resemble a kilt, with vertical ballast columns to form the pleats and intruded sills of dolerite forming the pattern. ( short photo stop )
From here, a short drive to Duntulm Castle ruins for a short photo stop. This was the seat of the clan MacDonald in the 17 th century.
Heading south-west we will visit a small farm steading to experience the making of sheepskins. After a short visit wi will drive to Dunvegan Castle for a visit and lunch. This was the seat of the chiefs of the clan MacLeod first built in the 13th century and developed over the centuries.
After the visit and if time allows us we will take a short detour to Neist Point for a panoramic photo stop before heading back to Portree.
The tour would leave Portree and head in a clock wise direction towards Uig, the gateway to the outer isles. We will take a short journey to the enchanting Fairy Glen. From there the next place would be the museum of island life which is closed for the winter so this would be a photo stop only, including Flora MacDonald’s monument. Duntulm castle ruin would be our next stop. Driving through Flodigarry, where the Jurassic landscape is still slipping to this day towards the sea, we will then head up on to the Quiraing where you will see stunning views across towards the Scottish mainland. We will stop next at the Kilt Rock, then Lealt falls, where you can have a short walk. From there a stop for photographs at the Old Man of Storr and then back to Portree.
Access to some areas will depend on weather and road conditions.
A minimum of three seats must be booked for the tour to operate. Please contact us by phone or email to check if the tour is running on the day you require.
