Overview

See Bangkok’s Buddhist temples and the Grand Palace on a half-day tour of the city’s historic highlights. Visit the Temple of the Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit) and Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha) then explore the grounds that once housed the royal Siamese court. Your tour includes all entrance fees and round-trip transport from centrally-located hotels, and both morning and afternoon departures are available.
  • Visit two iconic temples and the Grand Palace
  • Great overview and orientation of the city
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off included
  • Choice of morning or afternoon departure
Start with morning pickup at your centrally-located Bangkok accommodations, then head into the Chinatown neighborhood to make your first temple stop of the day at Wat Traimit, often called the Temple of the Golden Buddha.

Beneath the gilded roof of the eye-catching main temple, find the largest solid gold Buddha image in the world, a 5.5-ton sculpture whose origins have been lost to history. From Wat Traimit, continue to the nearby Wat Pho, or Temple of the Reclining Buddha. Walk the full length of the 151-foot (46-meter) long Buddha image that's the longest in Bangkok, or light an incense stick by the Buddha’s inlaid, mother-of-pearl feet.

Head to the banks of the Chao Phraya River to see the Grand Palace, whose elegant stepped roofs are considered the height of classical Thai architecture. Follow in the footsteps of the Chakri Kings as you tour the sprawling site; still a working palace, most of the interior is closed to the public, but the manicured grounds and palace temple are fascinating to explore.

Following your visit to the Grand Palace, your tour concludes with drop-off at your Bangkok hotel.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Temple of the Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit)
Offering this tour both in the morning as well as in the afternoon, our guide and driver pick you up from your hotel in Bangkok for 4 hours of getting an impression of the most stunning temples of Bangkok and the Grand Palace, Bangkok’s well-known building that breaths grandeur. Our tour commences at the temple with the invaluable Golden Buddha. Located in Bangkok’s thriving Chinatown district, Wat Trimitr (also called Wat Traimit) is best known as the home of the largest known solid gold Buddha image in the world. Standing at 15 feet tall and weighing in at approximately 5.5 tons, this 700-year old statue has an interesting history.

Stop At:
Wat Phra Chetuphon
Driving through Chinatown, we arrive shortly at the grounds of Wat Po. This large and extensive temple neighbours the Grand Palace enclave and contains a gigantic gold plated Reclining Buddha, some 46 meters long and 15 meters high, with beautifully inlaid mother-of-pearl soles. Considered to be one of the worlds’ most famous temples, Wat Pho is also regarded as the first centre of public education and is sometimes called ‘Thailand’s first university’
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At:
The Grand Palace
Situated close to the Chao Phraya, Bangkok’s River of Kings, the Grand Palace occupies nearly one square mile. The former royal residence of the Chakri Kings, the palace is the perfect example of an ancient Siamese court. Built in 1782 by King Rama I, it was the centre of power for more than 150 years. Today, the palace is Bangkok's major landmark and most popular tourist attraction and is often used for the occasional ceremony. The interiors of most of the buildings in the Grand Palace are closed to the public. After this introduction to Thai Buddhist temples and the home of the former Kings of Thailand, we bring you back to your hotel.

Fantastic Experience!
Julie_W
, Feb 2020
Nok was absolutely amazing! We loved our driver, too. Nok, our guide, was super knowledgeable and flexible. We loved that she heard us talking about certain things and made it a priority to show us similar things at different sites. She had a fantastic way of storytelling and showing us secret nooks and crannies. We loved how easy this tour was, they picked us up at our hotel, our guide had the driver waiting for us after each site. The car was clean, super cold (perfect in the hot Bangkok air!), our guide got us waters, took care of all our tickets and was able to make recommendations for us for other parts of our visit to the city. Can't recommend her enough!

Dear Julie_W What a wonderful review and thanks for sharing your Asian Trails experience with us. The temples are taking up a prominent place in the capital, and adding the magnificence of the Grand Palace to this excursion, really captures the must-see essence of Bangkok. Guides are our ambassadors in the field, out in the open and in the realms of monuments and sites. We certainly will pass this message on to Nok to show her how much you've enjoyed her presence and travel advice. Once again, such reviews are wonderful starts of our morning, and we do look forward welcoming you again to Amazing Thailand in not too long a future. With kind regards Asian Trails Thailand

We toured 3 temples & the Grand Palace. All were spectacular. John was our guide. He spoke English well & gave good information about each. We would have liked to spend more time at GP. Just so much to take in.

What a wonderful way to see the temples and palace in Bangkok. A personal guide and driver picked us up from our hotel and took us to see these wonderful sites giving us history and information. They were very kind and relaxed and even took lots of pictures of us which was well appreciated! It felt very personal and we even got a Starbucks as we were in need of a coffee! Thank you so much to our guide and driver!

Ticked the boxes

John, our private guide, and his driver arrived early and drove (4 of us) through the city and Chinatown, giving us information as we went. The two temples were achieved with ease and skipped the queues with special entrances. The Grand Palace was done in more detail and was wonderful. What a place. A must see. Fully escorted back to our hotel. A great afternoon. Thank you John.

Good pace tour. Nice van and all planned very well with tickets and pickups. Guide was okish, hard to understand and quite narrow with explanations.

Dear Guide2 We really appreciate giving us partially thumbs up for our efforts to continuously blaze new paths in travel. This rating assures that we have practised what we preached, and we have given you and your travel companions something you will cherish in the future. However, ratings of these levels may be appreciated it is also why we have exceeded expectations that is of immense value to us. The review leaves us a bit in limbo as the 'space for improvement' is inadequately outlined, outside of your experience with our guide. We have traced back the booking and found out that this ambassador of Asian Trails has an immaculate record. Some further outlines of your improvement suggestions are very much welcomed! Our thanks for bringing this further our to us via our official communication and social media channels. Kind regards Asian Trails Thailand

Great Way to See the Temples and the Grand Palace in Bangkok!
ellencmog
, Nov 2019
We had a great experience with our guide, Pranee! She was a walking encyclopedia and gave us lots of history and information that added to the value of our tour. Taking a tour like this is so much more valuable than wandering around by yourself. She bought all our tickets and let us spend as much time at each venue as we wanted to. We would definitely book with her again!

Nina was an excellent tour guide. She gave a lot of historical data that gave context to what we were seeing and made a big difference to how much we enjoyed the sights. Nina has a wonderful personality and was very gracious throughout the entire tour.

The whole trip was well organised well, time spent at each location was suitable. Both the driver and guide provided an good service. Had the guide's English been fluent then it would've been an excellent service & trip.

Dear Artishah Thank you very much for your reply in regards to your visit to Bangkok's must-see temples and the immaculate Grand Palace. Your comment on the guide language are noted and seen as a point of positive criticism. Our guides all undergo extensive training which includes language and communication skills. We're certainly reporting this back to our respective departments to assure that our standards remain at the highest level. It is feedback such as this - based on your personal experience and views on how our guide brought forward of the ins and outs of Bangkok - that gives us some feedback on our on-the-spot service standards. However, it remains hard to judge on what level you did not understand our guide and what was the hindrance in not fully comprehending our 'ambassador in the field'. Reading from the other parts of your reviews, we highly appreciate your positivity for the overall experience and are looking forward welcoming you again to the Land of Smiles in the near future. Nina is the Best Tour Guide Ever!
Aliesh124
, Sep 2019
Ive been to Grand Palace and the other temples in the past, but this tour was extremely different because of our tour guide, named Nina or Pranee! She knows the history too well and have taken an extra mile to make the tour enjoyable. She also gave tips where to shop and eat. Best of all she gave so much care during the trip! Many many thanks!

Dear Aliesh124 It has been a sincere pleasure reading your positive experience after revisiting the Grand Palace and the temples of Bangkok.
