Meet and greet the local historian tour guide and group at Pariser Platz, a square in the center of Berlin near the Brandenburg Gate.

Learn about the rise and fall of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany’s Third Reich while visiting many of the locations that were key to that time period. Walk through central Berlin, along the remains of the Berlin Wall and gain a better understanding of how the events of the past have shaped Berlin and Germany today.

The tour begins at the famous Brandenburg Gate, one of Berlin’s most important monuments. It was a symbol of division between Berlin and Germany during the post World War II Cold War, but it’s now a national symbol of peace and unity.

See the Luftwaffe Ministry, one of the many remaining Third Reich buildings and former headquarters of the Nazi air force. Discover some of the impressive examples of Nazi architecture— a few buildings are still in use while others were badly damaged in battle.

Visit the Reichstag building, the modern-day meeting place of the German Parliament and stand over the area of Hitler’s bunker, recounting his last days and the end of World War II. Also, see the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, more widely known as the Holocaust Memorial.

Finally, visit the Topography of Terror, an indoor/outdoor history museum. This is the former headquarters of the Third Reich and the SS as well as the Reich Security Main Office.

I must say that the tour was a disappointment, not worth the money spend 408 Euros. First of all there was a mistake in the organization: when I called to say that we would be 2-3 minutes late, I discovered that the private tour that I had booked had not been organized. There was probably some panic, and they hastily sent a guide who arrived more than one half hour late. This guide was a very charming gentleman, archaeologist and knowledgeable about his specialty but less knowledgeable about the subject under review: he recognized himself that he was not prepared for this particular tour, i.e. Berlin under the nazi period. We strolled along the streets, but lacked the thorough presentation that we had been hoping for. In total a tour that we could have performed alone: we would have saved 408 Euros not well spent.

This was an interesting and very informative tour and I would recommend it!

Our guide was excellent he began with a short summary of German history and then provided us with a comprehensive and in-depth description of all the sites listed in a manner that was both professional and thought provoking. I was accompanied on this tour by my 15 year old son and we both felt at the end that we had learnt many things and had a better understanding of this period in history.

Whilst a private tour is more expensive I felt it was worth the extra money.
