Begin your tour with a guide meet and greet at Zoologischer Garten train station or Hackescher Markt train station. Ride to the Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum in Oranienburg.

More than 200,000 people were imprisoned in Sachsenhausen between 1936 and 1945. At first, the prisoners were primarily political opponents of the Nazi regime. However, people that were defined by the National Socialists as racially or biologically inferior were later included.

By 1939, there were a large number of citizens from the occupied European states imprisoned here. Tens of thousands of people died of starvation, disease, forced labor and mistreatment, or they were victims of the systematic extermination by the Schutzstaffel, or the SS. Thousands of other prisoners died during the “death marches” that followed the evacuation of the camp in April of 1945. At that time, approximately 3,000 sick prisoners, along with the doctors and nurses who had stayed behind in the camp, were freed by Soviet and Polish soldiers.

This tour features a visit to the punishment cells, gallows, gas chambers and burial pits located inside the prison. Hear stories of prisoner bravery as well as the chilling atrocities that took place at the camp, which now serves as a national memorial to the prisoners who lived and died here. Your tour ends with a return train trip to Berlin.

Our tour guide, Nick (british one), was phenomenal. He is the goat (greatest of all time). We loved learning from him and really recommend. In our group we ranged from people who lost family to those who have never studied the Holocaust or concentration camps and he was able to cater to all of us.

Amazing day, James our guide from Dublin was an excellent storyteller, brought to life the whole experience with respect, clarity and openness. The walk through Oranienburg evoked the experience of being matched to the camp, and the feeling of being in the same place as such atrocities were committed is very powerful and moving. A very thoughtful, reflective and powerful experience. Lots of walking so a good level of fitness needed. Thank you

We had the pleasure of having Jamie as our guide, and he couldn’t have done a better job! He provided insightful information about the camp and was truly passionate about conveying his knowledge of the Second World War and the Nazi camps. We especially enjoyed the many stories he had about the development of the Sachsenhausen camp and life within its walls. We highly recommend this tour. Thank you Jamie for the unforgettable experience!

A Great Tour with an awesome Guide
Jane_W
, Nov 2021
We were fortunate enough to have Campbell as our Guide during our visit. His knowledge of the site, of the Reich and how it came to be, along with his delivery of a sensitive topic really added to the value of our trip. The method via which this trip is undertaken is excellent as we literally traversed to the camp from Berlin via train then walking to the camp: In the same manner as those poor souls who were taken there. All these experiences added, however minuscule, to our appreciation of how those imprisoned in the camp might have felt. Campbell finished the tour well by saying how the German people 'own' their history, even the darkest days, which completely resonated with us. During the train journey back to Berlin. Campbell went around each person to see if they needed advice on how to get 'home' and if they had questions about other things to see or do in Berlin. All in all a great value for money trip with an awesome Guide who went above and beyond for us.
