This horse-drawn carriage ride and tour, a journey that travels back in time to the colonial beginnings of Charleston, meets at 14 Anson Street, home of the Old South Carriage Company. Charleston, the oldest and second-largest city in South Carolina, is defined by its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pre-Civil-War-era houses.
As the tour progresses, pass by the old churches, antebellum mansions and lush gardens of Charleston — more than 2.5 miles and 30 blocks of residential real estate. Stop outside historic homes, like the Gov. William Aiken House, the former home of South Carolina Governor William Aiken, Jr. This house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
Part of the charm of the tour are the horses that pull the carriage. These are the same kinds of draft horses that worked on American farms in the early 1800s, making this voyage all the more authentic.
We had the tour with rivers and rowdy..excellent tour..he was so full of enthusiasm and historical facts..very funny as wll..would highly recommend this tour...
Would have liked to see rainbow alley but found out when on tour that it is a draw and drivers don't know which area they are taking
Maybe divide areas into sections so visitors can choose which area they want to see
Overall carriage ride was great
We had a great visit. Our guide was so informative and had a great personality....a real southern gentleman! (I can’t remember his name) I reserved for 11 am on 8/15 and since we got there early we were added to the 10:30 tour with our sweet horse, Ron. I would recommend Old South to anyone going to Charleston and will use them again next time.
Our guide, Rivers, was excellent. The tour was very informative and picturesque. Easiest way to see the city. Watch out for the 3rd party booking company Viator. They ripped me off for $10 that I had coming from a coupon code.

My husband and I really enjoyed this ride - the guide was delightful, knowledgeable and with a good sense of humor. The horses are obviously well treated and the carriages well maintained. I would recommend this company to anyone. A lovely experience!
