This was our favorite outing of our visit. We took several different tours and enjoyed this one most of all. The horse was treated well, the guide was very knowledgeable and had quite a sense of humor! The only thing that would’ve made it perfect would have been darkness! (It’s still daylight at 7 pm in August). Also, there was a ramp to use to board the carriage, so it’s good for ‘old folks’ like us!!
My mom and I frequent Charleston a pretty good bit but we've never taken a horse and carriage ride. I decided to surprise her with the evening tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the city of Charleston, its history, and its ghosts. Our horse Vern also knew his way around equally well and was a patient transporter of his carriage. Our guide stopped at various checkpoints to give us stories of ghosts and when they typically appear. My main hope was that we would have stopped at more graveyards and cemeteries but we only stopped at one very briefly. I'm certainly not disappointed, just wanted to see more tombstones but I guess that's more for the walking ghost tours. All in all, I lovely ride and a great way to relax, take pictures and enjoy the beautiful Charleston views.
On a side note, if you are worried about the safety and treatment of the horses, fear not. They live a great life and are well taken care of, and this is discussed at the beginning of the ride.
I took the carriage ghost tour because I wanted a ghost tour and carriage ride. This nicely combined the two together. I wouldn’t call the tour scary, but it was enjoyable to hear the stories and see the sights. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and funny, so we definitely had a good time.
