Why Travelers Choose This Tour
At Auschwitz-Birkenau and the nearby museums, you need time to yourself to consider the dark history attached to these sites. This 2-day pass allows you to slow down and see these landmarks at your own pace.
This Super Saver allows you to explore Krakow's top historical points of interest at your own pace. See the Itinerary section for more details on the half-day tour and museum pass.
Auschwitz-Birkenau Tour (6.5 Hours) Leave your Krakow hotel or central meeting point by air-conditioned minivan and make the roughly 1.5-hour journey to the former Nazi Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
On route, discover the terrible past of the Auschwitz complex and how it was founded during WWII to detain Polish prisoners before presiding over the deaths of nearly 1.1 million people, most of them European Jews.
On arrival, walk through the gates bearing the fallacious motto ‘Arbeit Macht Frei’ or ‘Work Sets You Free,’ and take a guided tour of Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau. Auschwitz I was partially destroyed by the Nazis in 1945, but many original buildings still stand, while much of Auschwitz II-Birkenau was razed to the ground.
With a knowledgeable guide, explore the exhibitions in the former prison blocks. Learn about the atrocities committed here, as well as the poignant stories of victims, and see the fences, watchtowers and other buildings, including the gas chambers and crematorium. Although visits can be distressing, your guide will provide sensitive commentary throughout.
Your tour ends back in Krakow at the original departure point.
2-Day Jewish History Museum Pass Collect your 2-day pass in central Krakow and use it at the three participating museums over any two days you wish (museums closed on Mondays). Your pass gives you free entry to the following museums:
Oskar Schindler Factory Museum Chart the story of Oskar Schindler’s life-saving efforts at this fascinating museum, housed in the building where Schindler employed hundreds of Jews, thereby protecting them from near-certain death.
Pharmacy Under the Eagle Museum Located in the former Jewish ghetto, this museum occupies a former pharmacy run by Tadeusz Pankiewicz during Krakow’s occupation. Take in the recreated wartime interior and learn how Pankiewicz helped the Jewish community to meet and evade capture.
Ulica Pomorska Situated in Krakow’s former Gestapo offices, this chilling museum chronicles the suffering of Krakow’s people during Nazi and Stalinist occupation. Explore the artifacts, documents and photographs, and see the prison cells, some inscribed with haunting graffiti.
