Marvel at the dramatic sea cliffs, gold sand beaches, and rocky coves of Portugal’s Algarve coast on this half-day small-group catamaran cruise from Lagos. Sail past landmarks such as the Ponta da Piedade and the black rock of Praia da Luz; enjoy swimming, kayaking, or paddle boarding in Burgau bay; and tuck into a delicious lunch on-board.
I didn't have high expectations for this tour, but it turned out to be the highlight of our tours. The captain was great and gave us a good amount of information. The scenery was so beautiful. The boat was comfortable for the 30-40 people aboard. Between our group we had all 3 lunch options - vegetarian was good, but a bit smaller than the other 2 options, the chicken and rice are served hot - good but messy to eat. The tuna salad was the easiest to eat and perfect for a hot day. We started out and went straight for the dolphins. The crew knew just where to go and got the dolphins to follow us, right under our boat! We were on the front of the boat and could lean over and see them under the boat, as well as out in front of the boat. It was incredible! The captain gave us the tip to take short videos instead of pictures, because the dolphins are easier to capture that way, which was a great tip. Swimming at the end before we drove back was perfect.
Staff were friendly. Captain made the decision to sail out to look for dolphins which reduced our time in other parts of the cruise...but the decision paid off. We had a pod of dolphins swimming alongside the boat for a good 10-15min. It was the most magical experience! Lunch was yummy and filling. It was nice to have the trampoline and paddleboards to use during our lunch stop. I was impressed by how close the captain was able to get to the rocks and caves on our way back to the marina.
It was amazing to see the beautiful coastline and it's hidden coves along the journey. We were lucky enough to also see several dolphins. The Captain was a jolly gentleman who gave a very humorous account of the rock formations and history of Lagos etc. However, it was a little difficult to hear him on times and maybe use of a microphone would have helped. We stopped at a gorgeous cove for lunch - we could dip in the clear blue waters, paddle board, snorkel, water trampoline or just relax. There was plenty of lunch and drink supplied.
One slight issue marred the trip for us. We pre-booked our tickets through Viator, but on arrival at the harbour boarding gate, had to waiting 15 minutes in the same queue as people who paid on the day. This was annoying they got onto the boat before us and took up 'prime position' in the sunbathing nets, leaving little room for others!
All in all it was a good trip and I would recommend it. We were a family of varying ages from teenagers to pensioners.
Lovely boat and tour, guides were great and informative. The food and drinks were good- vegetarian salad was a bit small in comparison to the chicken platter- but still delicious, there were free chips, soda, and wine on board. The time spent on the water was amazing- we saw dolphins for a good 20 minutes- took some amazing photos. We stopped for a 40 min lunch break where you had use of activities like SUP and the water trampoline. TripAdvisor said there were kayaks but I did not see any on board. I would have liked more time for the lunch break since eating takes up a good majority of it. Because it was an early cruise there was a huge party of parents and children so we did not have the chance to try the fun activities. Bring a sweater since it can get cold going fast and sometimes cloudy out on the water. Overall I would do it again!
