Had a fab trip to Liverpool with one of the highlights being the hop on bus learnt so much and sparked lots of interest and places to visit on our next trips. Will definitely be back to visit these fabulous places.
A last minute cancellation by a scheduled tour guide left us with few options for our visit to Liverpool. A highlight of the Mersey Ferry tour was a tour of a German U-boat recovered after World War II. Otherwise we did not see much of Liverpool.
Enjoyed every minute of it even the rain. The song Ferry across the Mersey made it even more special Phil and Dave were a good double act on the bus Dave certainly had the patter but met his match with two Brummie girls me thinks !!!! would certainly recommend it Thank you
We had real difficulty hearing the cruise commentary because everyone around us was talking, but apart from that it was fairly efficient. The awful weather and poor visibility didn't help the experience. The HOP on HOP off bus was a waste of time though. First it was 20 minutes late and a large crowd of us stood waiting in the driving rain. Then we were stuck downstairs and could hear very little of the commentary or see much outside the steamed up windows. There were few seats under cover upstairs and they were immediately occupied. Dont book in advance unless you are certain the weather will be good so you can sit upstairs.
Our tour guide, Oliver, was the best!!! Learned a lot about Liverpool while being entertained by Oliver. Great way to learn about the city - if you aren't only there for the Beatles. Convenient to the cruise ship port. Highly recommend.
The combined river cruise and bus allows you to see the best sites of Liverpool. Having been a major port, you need to go on the estuary to appreciate the multiple docks, the ferry and the shipyard. You can then use bus for 24 hours to take you around the main city sites with a very colourful commentary. The option to get off and re-board later is useful to spend some time at any site you wish as well as to spread the 24 hours over 2 consecutive days..
I did two days of this open top touring with 4 different live guides. All were excellent in different ways and while they provided the same basic information, each one had some twists or additional stories to keep us entertained. Highly recommended.
