Make your way to downtown Napa in the early evening, where you’ll board a motorcoach for the 30-minute drive to Grgich Hills Estate. Arrive at this family-run winery after it has closed to the public and enjoy a private tour with your small group. It’s an experience only available through Viator! Tour the barrel rooms while learning about the unique history of the winery and its founder, Mike Grgich — a Napa Valley legend whose pioneering techniques earned him a spot in the Vintner Hall of Fame.
Enjoy a guided tasting of Grgich Hills’ organically grown chardonnays, zinfandels and cabernets, served with local cheese and fruit pairings. Soak up the evening ambience of beautifully designed gardens, and purchase a bottle or two to take home if you like.
After your tasting, all aboard for a ride on the Napa Valley Wine Train, which will stop right at Grgich Hills. Settle in to the elegant dining car for a four-course dinner of gourmet, sustainably harvested specialties turned out by the onboard restaurant (see Itinerary for a sample menu). Relax at your table in the lovingly restored historic train as night falls across the vineyards of Napa Valley.
Disembark back at the downtown Napa Depot around 9:30pm.
