India is known for its amazing food, and we know just where you can find the most authentic culinary experience in Delhi: at home with a local. Our 'home cooked' Delhi food tour is less tour and more unique local experience, and is hands down one of the most authentic things to do in Delhi. It's not just a meal, but a dining experience in a family home, where you'll learn about local culture, taste incredible food, and make new friends. Meet your guide, take private transportation & make your way to your host's house. Your local guide will give you the lowdown on what to expect for the evening, before we're welcomed into our host's home.
Duration: 15 minutes

As dinner is being prepared, your local guide will provide information on the lifestyles of Indians, the traditions of home life, the importance of family in Indian culture, arranged marriages - and of course, the food! You'll dine on a traditional Indian home-cooked meal, which will be predominantly vegetarian and sure to tantalise our tastebuds like no other. Our hosts and local guide will be more than happy to provide as much information as we desire on the dishes provided, their ingredients, and how best to eat them, something you wont find on other Delhi tours. You can choose to do it Indian style and eat with your hands, but utensils are available if you'd like. We visited Ajid and his family. A brilliant experience. He and his parents had excellent English so we were able to discuss lots of things about and get a good insight into life and society in India. The food vegetarian was also great, and it was interesting to understand how it was prepared.

This tour made a nice break from the historic buildings. An opportunity to mix with the locals, discuss cultural differences, share in the preparation and eating of a meal. Definitely a good choice.

I wanted to share an experience with a working class family. My host was warm and gracious and I enjoyed the dinner. My recommendation to improve this experience is to schedule when guest is not traveling during rush hour. The trip was one hour going and three returning to hotel in New Delhi.

An excellent way to get to realy know the people! My delightful guide Komal picked me up at my hotel and whisked me away in an airconditioned car to her northwestern Dehli home where I met her parents, grandma and younger brother - all anxious to practice their Engish while "mama" taught me how simple it was to try my hand at making a lovely veggie Indian meal! The food was great and the hands-on experience couldn't have been more fun! I'd highly recommend this to anyone visiting Delhi as a great way to REALLY see beyond the India Gate and the swarming traffic into the real heart of India!

Our guide, Komal, was so wonderful and articulate. She shared her family, home, and uncle's excellent cooking with us. Most importantly, we got to learn all about the wedding season that was going on when we were there and showed us how a middle class Indian family actually lives. A fabulous and worthwhile experience we will always remember!

This was a fun trip, made a little awkward by the number of people on it (there were six of us visiting one family), however this was partly our own fault as we had to re-arrange the date due to an illness in our party. It was fascinating watching how to make some local food and chat to the family about their perceptions of life in Delhi and India. Certainly worth doing - try and ensure you are in a party of no more than 4.

Our excursion in Delhi has been one of the best experiences I’ve booked through Viator. If you, like me, do not believe in “bubble travel” where you go from the airport to a luxury hotel to an air-conditioned car, this is the activity for you. It doesn’t come more authentic than this! Our guide Anupam fetched us at the hotel and from there the journey on the various transport modes in Delhi started. The metro is clean and orderly and in a better state than many European cities I’ve been to. Everywhere we went people offered smiles and curious looks. The tuc-tuc ride is also an experience through the hectic traffic and millions of people. We however felt perfectly safe in the capable hands of our guide and followed him like baby ducks. We were greeted at Mumtaz’s home with flower garlands and a red dot on our foreheads to bade us welcome and we felt right at home in her delightful little blue kitchen. Ingredients were explained and then the cooking began. Everything we ate was a flavour explosion from the spicy chai tea to the golden dahl and the paneer curry. We each had a turn to try our hand at making chapattis and had a good giggle at our less than perfect efforts. We ended off the evening with Mumtaz painting our hands with wonderful henna art. The people of India are hospitable, friendly and interested in diversity. All in all a magical experience.

The cultural night tour exceeded our expectations! The host family was very gracious and hospitable and allowed us to join in in cooking the meal. To top things off, they dressed my wife in a sari and painted her hand in a henna design and outfitted me with a turban. We felt like royalty with the treatment we were given. It was not until the next day that our hosts alerted us via email that my wife had left her wedding band at their home. They saw to it that the third party tour operator, got the ring to us in good fashion. All in all, everything worked out well.
