Spend a day exploring ancient Maya cities and an underground pool on a full-day tour from Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza, Cenote Hubiku, and Ek Balam. Visiting both Maya sites offers the chance to experience the most iconic ruins in the Yucatan, then tour a lesser-visited gem with vivid frescoes and a fascinating history. This tour includes pickup and drop-off in Playa del Carmen, entrance fees, breakfast and lunch, and it’s limited to 15 people for a personalized experience.
Get an early start on the day with pickup at your hotel then enjoy a light breakfast during the 113-mile (182-km) trip to Chichen Itza, an ancient Maya city that’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon arrival at Chichen Itza, tour the sprawling complex with the guide, beginning with the Kukulkan Castle: also known as The Pyramid, this dramatic temple is aligned with the seasons, and a feathered serpent appears in shadow during the equinoxes. Continue to the ball court and the rest of the site, including the astronomical observatory, “The Church,” and more. Following your time at Chichen Itza, travel to the Cenote Hubikku, an underground pool that’s perfect for a cooling swim. This is one of the many caverns that dot the Yucatan’s limestone plateau, and it’s often illuminated by a shaft of clear sunlight. The final stop of the day is Ek Balam, where you can climb the acropolis to follow painted scenes from the Maya underworld, see the astronomers’ reflecting pools, and learn about the re-discovery of the site. Ek Balam is a less-visited site that’s still surrounded by thick jungle, and offers an explorer’s experience of Yucatan archeology. This tour concludes with return transfer to Playa del Carmen, and drop-off at your hotel.
Picked up 20 minutes late but we were advised by email that the pick up was late. All as detailed in the itinerary, 2nd stop the food/lunch was at the Cenote you can swim then eat or the other way around. We swam first and the changing rooms where okay as was the food and entertainment. If you want to spend a lot of time at Chichen Itza our 1st stop then maybe do less on another tour but we saw everything on the site with our guide, but we were a little pushed for the free time at the end with only 30 minutes, 10 of which we spent getting back to the beginning, because we had 2 more sites to visit. But it worked for us. Ek Balam our 3rd site, was also a great site to visit. Full 12 hour day for us after being picked up and dropped off at our Playa Del Carmen Hotel. Great guide and Driver and we had a cool box filled with as much water and juice as you could drink. We went on Monday the 29th of April and would use Yalku Tours again. Thank You
We had an excellent trip overall. Didn't start out great as the bus driver got lost in the seedier side of Playa del Carmen on the way to pick up other members of the tour. This also caused us to be about half an hour behind schedule. One thing that was not as advertised - tour is promoted as being limited to 15 people, but we had 18. It wasn't a huge deal, but please don't lie to me about what you're selling.
Despite being behind schedule we still made it to Chichen Itza before the crowds and the worst of the day's heat. Our guide was knowledgeable and had so many interesting facts to share. He also went out of his way to make sure our 7 year old was engaged, which we really appreciated. As we were heading out of the site we encountered the ENORMOUS crowds coming in and were very grateful for our early arrival!
Hubiku is great - but it is COLD. Swim at your own risk! Glad we got a chance to visit Ek Balam while the buildings are still available to climb - our guide indicated that will probably not last much longer.
Overall I do recommend this tour.
We joined five other travelers on a long day trip to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, and the Hubiku senote. The guide, Carmen, was extremely knowledgeable and very warm and friendly. The tour included a wonderful lunch and swimming opportunity in the senote. It's a very long day but well worth it! Very enjoyable and well-organized tour.
Excellent all around tour and a great value. I recommend it above those available at Hotel lobby.Everyone was professional, knowledgeable, with good food and destinations. It is an all day event, will be hot in summer and kids may not like the long day.Thomas Hendricks
This was an all day adventure from Cozumel but it didn't disappoint. We were driven in a 12 person van so we didn't have to wait for a bus full of people which was nice. Or tour guide, Chris, was very educated on Mayan culture and excellent at teaching us about everything. We did things as a group but were also given time to do our own thing like souvenir shop and swim at the cenote, overall a great trip!
The tour was very good and our tour guide was very informative
There are many many cheap souvenirs you can buy for very cheap from many vendors there. The cenote was a beautiful wonder. Best recommendation to bring good walking shoes.
