Explore the fascinating network of subsurface caves during a guided tour of the Postojna Caves and Predjama Castle, leaving from Ljubljana. As you enter the two million year old caves aboard a mini-train, you will learn about why this is one of Slovenia’s most popular attractions. You’ll walk with your guide and witness bizarre stalactites, stalagmites and other rock formations that make up the 13-mile-long (21 km) system of underground caves. You’ll also venture to the enchanting Predjama Castle, a famous castle that still clings to Slovenia’s limestone cliffs.
  • Travel along the biggest Slovenian cave systems
  • Ride by electrical train through majestic cave halls
  • Learn about the caves 'underworld system'
  • See one of the most interesting baroque castles
Meet your guide in central Ljubljana and settle into your ride as you set out for two of Slovenia’s most enchanting wonders, Predjama Castle and the Postojna Caves. First, go with your guide to the Postojna Caves and uncovers the fascinating world of an unusual amphibian known as the blind salamanders or referred to locally as “human fish.” Explore this enthralling underground world, while your guide explains the geologic forces that created them.
Next, head to the Predjama Castle, a storybook castle wedged beneath a dramatic stone archway and against cliff. Admire the unique Renaissance architecture of the castle located in south-central Slovenia, in the historical region of Inner Carniola. From the castle, enjoy views of lush, rural Slovenia.
After that, sit back and relax on your ride back to Ljubljana.

Our guide was a nice British man. He was very patient. First we met up at one of the hotels and he took us to see the castle first because the line for the caves was really long. In the end that’s the better way to do the tour- castle first caves next- if you go in the summer because of the heat.
The castle was cool- not ornate inside but cool to see how the cave is actually a part of the castle. Then we went to the caves and it was nice and cold after being out in the heat! There was a cute train ride down to the bottom. Then we walk for about an hour or two. The only down side is the caves are busy and they rush you along. After that we had a little time to shop and then dropped to home!

Beautiful place full of history .

I really had fun. This is a good activity to do from Ljubljana before one begins a tour of the Adriatic area.

WOW! Like literally one of the craziest caves I've ever experienced, the guide took us to both locations and provided us a brief history in english. Once you get to the locations, a local guide for the locations takes over. Simply just trying to get to the locations and paying tolls will be crazy enough, so save your time and money and just do this which provided me transportation to and from the hotels as well as all tickets and tolls. So once you get to the caves, we had a local english guide. Please note the group sizes are gigantic so if you are trying to learn about the caves push yourself towards the front of the group. Through out the caves tour i was able to take pictures, and video, there were times the lights in the cave went out, and i needed to use the flashlight app on my phone to see. For the most part the cave was easily walk-able not that many steps. Once your done with the train ride, the walking starts, and you end with a train ride, where you can see the notorious cave salamander which can survive without food for 10 years! Once you are done with the castle, a self guided audio tour starts from the Predjama castle. It is so cool to see this castle, as it is built in front of a cave, and there is an old castle inside the cave. SO you can walk through all the rooms, and pictures and videos were not a problem. I even stopped by the stalls outside and got some local wine for 5 euro and some souvenirs, and it was great! Overall this tour is the place almost all tourists are going too, so be ready for big groups, but it is very informative, and helps you appreciate the land and layout, of what used to be!

This tour is a must if visiting Slovenia. we had booked a private tour for three people. The driver arrived on time and was friendly and engaging, offering informative information on Slovenia and the places we were visiting. The car was clean, comfortable and spacious. Really enjoyed visiting the caves and castle and would highly recommend this tour.
