Your guide, who is also a Weta Workshop technician, will show you the ins and outs of this marvelous facility. Check out the handcrafted weapons and sculptures displayed in the Weta boardroom, and admire the wealth of awards the company has racked up, including five Oscars® collected by Weta’s Richard Taylor and his team.
As you proceed, you’ll get a glimpse of workshop sections normally off-limits to the public and get an insider’s look at how movie props and costumes are created from scratch.
When you finish the guided portion of the tour, feel free to stay a while longer to wander through the exhibitions in the Weta Cave or to pick up a few souvenirs.
After having booked your tour time in advance (Weta Studio Tours is open daily from 9am to 5.30pm), make your own way to Weta Studio Tours in Wellington to begin your private 2.5-hour tour.
Accompanied by your private Weta Workshop guide, begin your tour with a peek into the Weta Workshop boardroom, lined with glass cabinets full of original handcrafted sculptures and weapons. Also on display are the numerous awards that Weta Workshop has been awarded over the last 20 years, including the 5 Oscars® won by Richard Taylor and the Weta Workshop crew.
While some parts of the workshop are out of bounds due to the confidential nature of the projects being worked on, your guide will show you spaces which are not normally not open to the general public. Enjoy a first-hand look at the intricate processes that go into making the costumes and props here at Weta Workshop, and visit the Park Road post production cinema to learn more about how the Weta crew help bring a director’s vision to life.
