Five times larger than Ibiza or Menorca and dominated by a rugged mountain range, the island of Mallorca seems made for outdoor adventure, both on the coast and further inland. Many of the island's 10 million annual visitors head straight for the beachfront resorts, but there's a whole lot more to see in addition to the beaches. Here are some of our favorites.
In the Water
The Palma Islands are famous for their beaches and beautiful waters, so they are must-have items on any itinerary. One of the most relaxing ways to enjoy the sights is on a sailing trip along the coast—whether aboard a single hull or catamaran, sailing adventures cover a lot of the island in just a short amount of time, with ample opportunity for swimming, sun bathing, snorkeling and dolphin watching.
Palma is the island chain’s capital city and it’s here you’ll probably touch down first, and it’s here where there are so many things to do. Don’t get discouraged. There’s an easy way to break down your visit.
Consider an easy Hop On Hop Off City Tour which picks you up directly in front of your boat and shows you all the pertinent info of your host city while allowing you the luxury of stopping and checking out what you absolutely need to experience right then and there (like the beach, market, or the Almudaina Palace).
The Inca Markets Shopping Tour is always a hit to gather up some rare leather collectibles, while the Mallorca Island Tour gives one a whole sense of the island, as opposed to just the city. This is nice for those who’ve had enough of the city life, but still want a little culture and history.
Another option is Valldemossa and La Granja. This all day excursion takes you to high ground, where you’ll see Valldemossa.
