Cultural and Natural History Tours of the Litttle Tennessee RIver Valley

The Little Tennessee River valley is one of the most culturally rich and biologically diverse locations in the southern Appalachians. This was the heartland of Cherokee country, and offers outstanding opportunities for visitors to experience it firsthand with a knowledgeable guide. Rich in bird and botanical life, the visitor can expect to see numerous species of neo-tropical songbirds (dependent upon time of year), rare plants, lichens, mosses, and more. The Nantahala National Forest contains miles of hiking trails, such as the Bartram and Appalachian Trails. The 18th century naturalist and artist William Bartram described the valley and its mountains as "one of the most charming mountain landscapes perhaps anywhere to be seen." The Little Tennessee is an easy river to paddle, and trips average five to seven miles in duration. No prior experience is required. Our hiking trips can be tailored to meet your physical limitations and expectations.
