Things to do in St Kitts and Nevis
Welcome to St Kitts and Nevis
These twin islands in the Caribbean’s Lesser Antilles are formally known as the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, but that’s about all that’s formal about them. Travelers could spend their vacation here happily reclining on the beaches that ring both islands, but a wealth of private and group tours lead you on numerous adventures, with chances to explore by land, sea, and air. Tour Saint Kitts, the larger of the two islands, on a walking or coach tour through the busy capital of Basseterre, then on to see the imposing UNESCO-listed Brimstone Hill fortress, as well as a strip of nightlife-loving establishments that pump out soca (a blend of soul and calypso music) along Frigate Bay. Book a tour via mini speedboat, Jet Ski, snorkel cruise, or ATV. Or lace up your boots for an adventurous guided hike up Mt. Liamuiga Volcano. Those in search of quieter experiences should venture across the Narrows, a two-mile strip of water, to Nevis, a tiny island ringed by sand with a single volcanic peak in the center. Take a tour to get a feel for the island’s history, and learn about Admiral Horatio Nelson and local boy Alexander Hamilton. Join a walking tour into the green center of the island, or hop on a guided bike ride to take in more ground. Stop in the capital Charlestown, at the Montpelier Estate and Botanical Gardens, and at the Hermitage Plantation.
