Valparaiso is one of Chile’s most idyllic destinations. Its colorful rolling hills, bright and cheerful neighborhoods, historic outdoor elevators and nearby vineyards make it the perfect place to experience this diverse nation. Three days exploring the city (and getting out of town) insures a memorable journey in one of the country’s favorite cliff side towns.
Day 1: Explore the Cerros
Valparaiso is a city that’s made for wandering. Spend the day exploring the quaint and colorful cerros that make this destination so unique. Stroll the well-known Cerro Concepcion, where stunning countryside views and epic overlooks offer ideal photo ops. Spend an afternoon relaxing at one of the quiet outdoor cafes and people watch as locals meander past. Take in the murals and street art that decorate historic buildings along the way and ride in one of the old-school ascensors—historic elevators that carry travelers in rickety carriages from the top of each cerro to the bottom.
Day 2: Venture to the Vineyards
In a nation that’s known for its bold reds and crisp whites, Valparaiso offers easy access to some of Chile’s most exclusive vineyards. Spend a day navigating nearby Casablanca Valley, where rolling hills and lush landscapes offer up the perfect backdrop for sampling and sipping. Venture into aging rooms and wine cellars while learning about family traditions and wine production.
Day 3: Escape to the Countryside
Spend a day outside the streets of Valparaiso navigating some of the countryside’s most beautiful trails on horseback. Head to the mountains of Quebrada Escobares and ride through some of the region’s most picturesque landscapes with epic valley views. Enjoy an outdoor barbecue and traditional Chilean lunch and a relaxing dip in the pool before returning to the city for a night on the town.
