My husband I recently spent a day and one half in Amsterdam prior to boarding a 12 day Baltics cruise.
Being seniors and having a spouse with some walking issues I chose this motor coach tour through the city and several country side towns.
I was not disappointed. Viator's contact in Amsterdam was Lindberg Travels, located in the Central Station. A beautiful double decker motor coach was ours for the day. We were escorted at times by three guides, Desemina, Natallia and Danilo. They very efficiently kept track of everyone and made sure we all heard what was being said. They also translated for those that needed it. I was most impressed by there concern and care for those that walked slower or had trouble with stairs.
The tour consisted of Diamond Factory visit
A boat trip on the Ijsselmeer
Visit to an authentic Dutch windmill + demonstration by the miller
Visit of the traditional fishing village Marken + demonstration by a clog maker
The Cheese Factory + the Old Dutch Bakery in Volendam.
Lunch was at our own in Volendam Harbor at a delightful fish and chips restaurant called DE LUNCH Havenrestaurant . Our waiter, Brian gave us excellent service and had us served in the time allotted for the stop.
I certainly recommend this tour.... especially with our limited time in Amsterdam and senior entry level.
I wasn't informed that there will be a two hours break after the City tour trip that starts at 9 am . And the other tour to the country side starts only at 2.20pm. No mention that we are going to spend time at the diamond center too during the city tour.
We were surprised when we reported for our 9:00 tour to find out that we were with two different tour guides and that there was a 2 1/2 hour break in-between tours. Beware of this, we thought we were returning at 5:30, instead it was 8:30 PM. The city tour guide was monotone and presented in two different languages. All you do is ride around in a bus, a waste of our precious time. The trip to Marken was amazing and well worth the money spent. Highlights were the clog maker, the working windmill, cheese making demo and lots of samples and the quaint shops. If rating only the Marken Day Trip, I would have rated it 5 stars.
This tour was not as described. The windmill tour we saw 4 total windmills and one was broken. (Not the companies fault but still) when you sell a windmill your and you only get to see 4 total windmills it's a major let down in the land that is known for windmills. The clog making was short presentation of basically putting wood into two different machines. Not much more presentation. The cheese presentation was no more information than if you had read the description on the cards I front of the machines that make the cheese with the exception of explaining the different ages of the cheeses they sold. I'm sure in the store they would explain that to you as well. Then we had to wait around and hour and half with little options to do besides eat and a few designated places. If eating was the last step then maybe they should work out a deal with the restaurant they tell you to eat at and include it in the tour. The guides we good just a bit pushy. I did not want to eat at the time we were told to go eat at the restaurant they took us to and so then I was bugged until I went and ventured off on my own mini walking tour. The guide did direct me where to go which was great but I felt pushed because I was fine just relaxing looking at the boats and the water. Overall I was not pleased with this tour. It is not worth the money.
We got super lucky with the weather even though we had a small shower but because of that, the sky was absolutely spectacular.
The ride was super comfy.
Volendam is super cute, the wooden shoe factory was interesting and we really enjoyed the cheese tasting and also bought some
Amazing tour! And made even more fun 'coz of our guides: our all-in-one driver-piano player, singer, photographer, comedian... the one and only Stefi! Accompanied by Giorgio/Santiago! Places we went were so wonderful! We didn't experience any issues during the whole trip, everything is organized. Pink Panda Team, woohooo!
