Hubbie and I have been to the Riks several times. We've been to museums all over the world. We've had private guides in many of them. None and I mean none compare to Dr. Kees. His tour was far and above all other tours that I have had. We were with another couple who had never set foot in any museum before. Dr. Kees' knowledge, enthusiasm and ability to explain the art history of the most important works in the museum were just what they needed. All of us were overwhelmed with his passion and how he made artists and their art come to life. When I go back to Amsterdam, I will certainly engage him again.
My 3 hour private VIP guided tour of the Rijksmuseum was the absolute highlight of my time in Europe. Kees, the guide, is an art historian who is a fount of knowledge about the Dutch Golden Age, of course, but also about particular paintings, the way they came to be, lives of the painters and their families and modern research. He made the time vivid and alive. Cant recommend highly enough!
The tour with Kees was amazing, we have been the first in the museum and we had some 20-25 minutes to be nearly alone in the hall of fame - if nothing else, this was to money worth. But it was just an add-on. To spend 3 hours in the Rijksmuseum with Kees was something extraordinary. He showed us all the important Dutch masters, spent time explaining the most important paintings, on the other hand he also showed us other interesting items from the collection of Rijksmuseum, telling us the stories you would not find in any guides...
If I would go once more to Rijksmuseum, I would definitely go with Kees again.
